Finished Chemo and radiotherapy and feel good

Hello everyone

I haven’t posted for a long while mainly because we moved house (on my last chemo) and I went to my sister’s for radiotherapy.

Thank goodness chemo is finished. I told the doctors that I didn’t want any more Taxotere but in the end they reduced the dose by 20% which helped a tiny bit.

Radiotherapy was a breeze - lie there for a few minutes, then go home.

I am now on Herceptin and have just had by 9th dose without any sideeffects apart from fluid round the heart which is very minor.

I’m also on Tamoxifen and don’t haven any side effects with that either.

I haven’t had a period since the second chemo (I am 51).

One thing I do have, is lymphodema as I had all my lymph nodes removed. I wear a sleeve and a glove to try and manage it but three weeks ago I was putting out the rubbish as my husband was in a rush and I banged and scraped my hand and since then, my hand has been swollen. I was meant to see the lymphodema nurse today but she cancelled as she was unwell. Hopefully I can see someone next week.

I have changed my diet - I don’t touch alchol now at all. I eat an apple a day, have spinach several times a week, eat plums, drink pomegrante juice and eat more fish especially sardines and salmon.

I am determined now not to get a re-occurence as it doesn’t run in the family. My consultant said that I was just ‘unlucky’.

If anyone reads Good Housekeeping, I was in the August edition!

Better stop typing now as my hand has started to swell up.

Best wishes everyone xx

Hi MNC
Glad you are over the worst of treatment and feeling good. Its reasurring that there is light at the end of the tunnel - shame about Lymphodema though - did it just flare up or was it a gradual build up?

I have another week of RADS, am taking Amidrex too (for seven years) and then its all finished for me too.

I feel a bit stiff in the mornings I think thats the Amidrex but it does wear off.

good luck to you and best wishes too x
