First chemo done and worried about the side effects

Hi all,

I got diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer and DCIS about four weeks ago, and I had my first chemo this Friday. I am a young mum (13 months) but have the luxury of a friend coming over to help me and my partner look after the baby.

I was really positive before the chemo, but had very low lows, mainly due to hormonal changes etc but I was excited for the first chemo to start to get this thing over with. All people I spoke to have had okay experiences and said symptoms are manageable. Now, a few days after chemo I am really struggling with vomiting and diarrhoea (sorry for TMI) and am struggling to eat. It got so bad I was told to go to a and e but they said all is well. My anxiety is at a peak. Did anyone else have these side effects. Did the doctors manage to get them in check eventually? I am just so worried I’ll forever feel like shit and won’t be able to look after my baby for five months or loose so much weight….

I’d really need some positivity please. I know I’ll be fine eventually but spiralling a little and need support from people who know what it’s like.

Welcome to the forum @lmack95 . I’M so sorry you are having such a difficult time . There’s lots of support here from people who understands how it feels to help you get through the next part of your treatment .

You might like to join the November chemo starters group to get some support going through chemo. There are others with young children on the forum who hopefully you can connect to. There’s always people here to chat to and vent to. Best wishes Jill

PS if you have number to call for your chemo team maybe contact them about the sickness it could be they can adjust your anti-sickness meds - nothing is too small to contact them about ,they want you to stay well.
