First Chemo Effects

Hi everyone, Can I have a few opinions?? I had/have a 4 cm large lump in my boob plus some mets in my liver. I have had one dose of herc and tax and within a week the lump in my boob went down to nothing really. Can still feel a bit of thickened tissue on the chest wall but thats it. Should I get excited about this or is this usual? Even if they do go away so quick can they come straight back up after chemo finishes?
I know effects are better than no effects but I’m just not sure how I should be feeling?
xx

Hi KerryRose

Although I’m on different treatments for my liver & bone mets (Xeloda, Bondronat & Aromasin), I think I’d be excited about such a quick response. Can you ask your onc team, Mac nurse or hospice team whether this is a good sign for you now? As for having progression when/if you stop treatment, some of us have experienced that, and others of us have been able to find treatments that keep us “stable”. Here’s hoping you continue to have a great response!

Hi Kerry,
last year after 6 tax my tumours shrank 50% and I was over the moon!
We are all different some of us get instant results and others it takes several shots. For some a treatment may not work at all so it is onto the next chemo on the list. In my case I have been fortunate each chemo has worked and bought me more time. Unfortunately my liver cancer responds and then the uggers grow back. So in my mind I view chemo as being a weed killer I now I will have to have more but I try to enjoy my chemo breaks.
Good luck with your treatment lets hope you get more shrinkage.
Love Debsxxx

Thanks for your responses Marilyn and Debs. Its so hard, I am still new to all of this, I think in the back of my mind I still think there might be some kind of miracle!? Im seeing my onc next week so I will be bombardng him with yet more questions! Thanks x I have to be positive, as you say I could have had no response or the lump could have got bigger.

Hi Kerryrose
I had a good response to chemo last year with my local recurrence (shrank by 80% ish overall but difficult to judge how small it haas got due to it being in the scar tissue) and also my bone mets have stabilised and improved. I was definitely over the moon! It make the horribleness of chemo a bit more bearable. I’m currently still stable after my last scans 6 months after the end of chemo which was also a big relief to know that the hormone therapy seems to be working as well. Hope you continue to have good results.
