Well I had my first FEC this morning. 1 down, 5 to go! It wasn’t too bad at all. Just had a very cold arm and my nose stung with the cyclophosphamide but apart from that I feel quite normal. It was nice having the treatment at home. Much less stressful than getting to the hospital and it smells nicer here! lol
Good luck to everyone starting soon

Hi Buzzy,
Glad to hear your first chemo is out the way and wasn’t too stressful for you… how nice to have it at home, will you have all of them at home or was it a one off?
Im like you, I had my chemo before my op which is now all finished and will be having my op next saturday (4th Sept)
Hope you dont suffer too much with any side effects, I didn’t with the FEC, just with the Taxotere.
Take care
Wendy xx
Hi Wendy
Treatment at home is offered in this area as part of a pilot scheme so hopefully I will have them all here.

Hi Buzzy, I had my first FEC on 24th Aug at Barts. I felt really sick the first two days but no vomiting thank god. Was extremely tired though as I had minor surgery the day before to put in a portacath - a little plastic thing in your chest attached to a vein in your shoulder for easy chemo infusion. Felt relatively back to normal day 3/4. No hair loss as yet - getting it all cut off on saturday to get used to no hair. Mentally I think I’m doing ok but then look at my two year old and get dreadfully upset. ho hum. my next treatment is 14th Sept so I’ll check in with you to see how you’re getting on. Rizzle.
Hi Rizzle
I went back to work today after having a few days off. Some people seemed surprised to see me, obviously assuming I would be off for the whole time I’m having treatment. One event commented in a very surprised voice that I looked normal! What did she expect, that I would come in looking like an extra from the Thriller video?! lol
I am hoping to carry on as relatively normally as I can throughout. Obviously I will look different later on when I lose my hair and no doubt fatigue will catch up with me at some point but isn’t it funny how everyone has different expectations of how you should look, act or feel just because you have cancer?
Hope you are still feeling well
Take care

Hi Buzzy
Like you am on FEC x 6 - have final one next week - looking back can’t believe it .Have had 3/4 days post chemo that s.e wern’t good then I’ve been slowly on the up. Managed to continue working except for those first few days and for me working has made me feel ‘normal’and has helped me think about something else.Yeap - someone did say to me ’ Oh you look so well’ - what did they think i would look like? Ah well …
Have had consitent s.e so the ’ fatique / tirdness hasn’t got worse - not sure if I’ve been lucky or what but thank my lucky stars.
Good luck with your treatment…
It is doable

Hi Buzzy again
Just thought - started to lose my hair just before 3rd FEC - didn’t like the stuff on the pillow / shower so my loved one trimed my hair very short and I started wearing my caps / wig. I have been really suprised how easy I have adapted to this, when before chemo started it was top of my list as to how can I cope with this!I was prepared with head gear through advice from my b.c nurse. The scount motto of ‘be prepared’ ticked the box for me

Well done you, and I hope you stay as well.
I have had 3 FEC now and have not really suffered at all. Don’t sleep well for first 3 days (steroids), slight icky taste in my mouth (goes when I eat), constipation (cured by prunes for breakfast) and hair started going day 15 of first FEC and is now all gone. I’ve not had a day off work sick since I started.
I was actually quite pleased when my hair started falling out as I knew it was doing something then, and they had given me the right stuff.
Doing 3 Tax next - hope that is as kind to me
Its been a while since anyone posted here so thought I’d update my status. had my second FEC last tuesday. my oncologist changed my post chemo tablets to try to reduce the nausea and they made it a hell of lot worse. stronger steroids = no sleep for two days + extreme nausea. Was totally wiped out wed/thurs. Perked up a bit Friday. Its a week now and feeling back to normal. Mouth is now starting to feel sore, but pre-empting last rounds ulcers with salt mouth washes which worked really well. had some acupuncture last night - will be interesting to see if it has any effect. getting my wig sorted tomorrow. would like to hear how people get on with the T part - met a woman in barts who scared the life out of me with her tales of side effects.
