Glad to see you are feeling ok Ladies, long may it continue

Keep healthy and well

Well done Sue and Maria…I am proud of you both

I slept OK,felt a bit “iffy at times” but drank water and it passed, and feel OK this morning. The chemist had to order my zofran (anti-sickness pills) so I haven’t had one yet, but I managed to eat some breakfast, going into town in minute to get them.
Sue, I hope you are OK too.
Love Maria

Hi all

Hope you get your anti-sickness pills before you need them Marial! I have 3 diff types and am trying to take the right ones at the right times! Managed to drink lots and wee now only very pale pink!

Slept on and off and feel ok today so far - just a bit odd. Cycled the children to school feeling a bit guilty for being around and about as normal this morning. Already bored at home! District nurse visiting this pm could be the highlight of my day!
Better bored than ill I guess…

Hi Sue, the G-CSF gave me real real bone pain for a couple of days where I could not move very well at all, apparently it is a very common side effect. Was told to have some nurofen ready in the house for that. You are right though taking your tablets on schedule, they told me the same, easier to stop nausea before it starts, more difficult to get on top of it once you are being sick. Pink wee went after 36 hours.
Been put on Emend for next cycle.
They have slapped cheek virus outbreak at school, been advised to stay away…hope mine will not bring it home! Oh what joy! Quite funny, was talking to one of my friends at the school gate who took my boys in and she said that I must be so careful at the moment and another mum butted in saying she could see that I must have “issues” with this outbreak even though its part of school life! Can’t believe what some people come out with, sure she would do the same in my position. xxxTina

PS Maria, the Zoffran can make you very constipated, I was told to have Lactulose with it to stop any “bunging up”! Tina

Thanks Tina for the info, I am still taking iron since my op and now the Zofron, both will bung you up. Great.
Still feel OK. But not doing anything special today. not bored though.
Sue, why is the district nurse coming ?
Hugs Maria

Marial - District nurse came to give me injection of bone-marrow boosting drug: says both Ratiograstim and Filgrastim on the box. Am to have 1 jab for 5 days after each chemo. Was brave and did it myself so I don’t have to have a visit every day. One false feeble stab in tummy then another go which was on target. Another new skill under my belt…

Tina - is that a differnt drug from the G-CSF you had. There are so many brand names it can be hard to tell.

Forgot to say that my wig finally arrived today! I chose it last week but the wig shop and hospital were being rubbish with paperwork. Isn’t as bad as it had got to be in my memory, but still caused much merriment and horror from my 9 year-old daughter! At least I’m causing amusement.

There are three different types of G-CSF:

lenograstim (Granocyte®)
filgrastim (Neupogen®, Ratiogastrim®)
pegylated filgrastim (Neulasta®).
These drugs all work in similar ways. The molecules of the pegylated filgrastim have a substance that helps the drug to be active in the body for longer.

Will be going to a wig shop on Tuesday, miss having hair. Also there is an assembly at school next Friday for my little boy and somehow I want to look normal without half the school trying to look without it being too obvious they are looking…

2nd day post chemo and still OK. I had inscribed to do a 2 day course next week for work (before dx) and I am thinking I just might go. 1/2 h drive to station, and 1/2h train ride. 6 hours course. What do you think.?
TaKe care everyone
Maria

I can see why you’re thinking of going Marial. Like you, I don’t feel that bad, at least not yet. But next week your white cells might have gone down so maybe sitting in a meeting room all day might be a bad plan… People who’ve gone through whole first cycle may be able to give better insight though.

Scoobs x

Hi Marial,

I had my first fec 2 weeks ago and although i have felt great all week, HAVING FELT RUBBISH LAST WEEK, i AM NOT SURE I WOULD HAVE GONE ON THE COURSE FOR THE SAME REASON IE. WHITE BLOOD CELLS DOWN. tHE JABS ARE SUPPOSED TO STOP THEM GOING DANGEROUSLY LOW ( soory caps!) but mine still dipped below 1 to 0.8 so i was officially neutropenic and very open to infection. I would certainly consider driving rather than public transport if you did go though, and take anti bacterial handgel to use evry 3 seconds, anti viral tissues and sit 40 feet from everyone next to wide open french windows…!

Hi Sue and Maria I’m really pleased your both OK and no side effects i hope is wasn’t as bad as you feared ) ( big pat on the back for being brave)i know mine wasn’t I’m a week post chemo now and still fine I’m having a check -up wed with the oncologist then the following week it will be FEC -2 how that 3 weeks has flown roll on August ha ha.I have had the munchies since chemo but luckily my cravings are for healthyish things. Beetroot sandwiches, liquorice, celery pineapple chunks and ive gone off coffee like i did when i was pregnant , im now drinking hot chocolate or bovril strange ha ha x

HI Daisey sorry you’ve had to join us ive sent you a private message with some tips thats helped me up to now things ive got of all these other amazing ladies on this site hope your 1st treatment goes well on the 17th take care x and let us know how you doing xx julie

Thanks Sue and Vickie for the advise, luckily I don’t have to decide until the last minute,so we will see.

What surprises me is that I don’t have any appetite. I can eat and I do, but with no real pleasure. I really seem to think I could live on water alone at the moment. Does anyone else feel like that. I took the dexa-methasone for the first two days as prescribed, but it didn’t give me any appetite.
Take care of yourselves
Maria

Hi Maria and Sue,
well done both of you for getting through stage one! I am still trailing behind you…I got my appointment to see oncologist next Thurs so after that I may know more about when my treatment will start.
I’m having the same oncologist as tors so we may bump into each other at some point!
Keep feeling well, Maria I would say go to course if you wish but then there are more experienced people re the infections etc here who know what they are talking about…good luck deciding.
I have asked if I can go back to work whilst I wait to begin treatment so will have to see if they will let me
Bye for now hugs Sue xx

Hi all,

I really agree about appetite Maria. I’ve been good and have made myself eat, but don’t fancy anything. I had got into redbush tea and soya milk (sounds horrid I know but I was enjoying it snce op and trying to cut down on dairy etc) but now I can’t imagine anything I’d raher not drink! I’ve already lost nearly a stone since dx so I really don’t want to fade away!! Feel rather feeble today I must say. Hoping I’ll perk up for the weekend.

Just about to have some toast and humus…

I am also with no appetite but eat regularly as when I don’t I feel dizzy and queasy. Keep hoping that my kids don’t catch the slapped cheek syndrome going round at school.
Also have three days of dex after chemo and that so far gave me bad skin rather than a large appetite, I take it early am so am not too “wired” from it to sleep at night. I keep waking up so early in the morning every hour I can sleep is precious really! Hope everyone is holding up! xxxTina
