First chemo treatment visiting advice

Hi everyone,

My mum is starting her very first chemo treatment for breast cancer next week so I am feeling very stressed and worrried for her :frowning: My question is- I am at uni about a 4 hour trip away from her and  have been visitng most weekends. Her chemo is  on wednesday and am I am wondering if I should travel down to be with her for it (my dad will be with her anyway) or if I should wait until the weekend (2 days after) or if I should wait until she is feeling better? I don’t want to be there if she is feeling too sick and too many people will be in the way. She is being started on EC chemo… I was just wondering if any of you who have been through the same treatment were feeling ok 2 or 3 days later or if that is when it starts getting bad.

Sorry for rambling!

Any help is much appreciated

Hi ,sorry you haven’t had a reply to your question .Hope your Mum is coping ok with her chemo .If you have any questions re supporting her with her treatment may be better to post in the “going through treatment” section of the site as this is a very quiet area of the forum .You sound like a lovely supportive daughter .It will help your Mum if you still get on with your studies and have fun too otherwise she will worry about you!! Come when you can and make a fuss ,have a girly time and give your Dad a break but have your life too (I speak as a Mum of a 19 yr old at Uni ) and having been through breast cancer myself .All the best to you and your Mum .Jill.

Hi, I started my first session of chemo on EC and I was given the anti sickness medication to take for the next 3-5 days. Took the meds as advised and experienced no sickness and didn’t need to continue with the anti sickness tablets. Also I would say if your dad is going with your mum maybe that should be enough as they don’t let two people in at once anyway also first session is mostly talking to the nurses and them explaining things to the patient and also the patient gets to have a feel of other patients experience. I personally took my husband and sister but I found myself chatting to other patients and gaining advise from them from their experience as it made me feel I wasn’t alone. Hope that helped
