Had unilateral masctectomy on 3 Nov, recovery Ok so far…have appt for prosthesis fitting in a coule of weeks time ( wearin my softie for now.) So much conflicting advice… do wear a pocketed bra… don’t wear a pocketed bra… wear a sports bra for being fitted… dont… etc etc. What is other peoples experience of this and what can all you ladies out there recommend? Also… I am a a 32 E and catlogues such as Nicola Jane have evey little ( 2 bras ) in my size which is evry dissapointing… E cups seem to start at 34 and 32’s stop at D or C1 cup.Any one know a place that does a wider range of sizes?
I like the pocketed bras. I am nearly 2 years since my mastectomy. I just find it so easy slippin the prosthesis into the pocket slinging the bra on the chair at night then just putting it on in the morning.
When i have the bra on it just looks fairly normal you can’t tell i have had a mastectomy.
I use womanzone i know they have a website but if you google it i am sur eyou will find the site. If you live near Warrington, I am in Liverpool you can phone and make an appt and they will measure you and fit your bras which i have done. I usually buy about 4 at a time. I know i dont pay tax on them either with having BC.
I know now there are more up to date prosthesis sticky ones etc hopefully they will show you these and give you a choice.
Good Luck
Rx
Thanks I will have a look at womanzone

Thanks, I spoke with a really nice ldy on the helpline & she sent me a bundle of really helpful leaflets that came today, also info about prosthesis fitting & ligerie evenings, a huge help
Hmmm. I am a 36 DD - or E, depending how one counts the sizes.
I hate the pocket bras. stodgy, ugly things, and not very effective in the way of it. I had one, just threw it in the bin a couple of days ago.
I wear my normal bras, I snipped at one side the underwire off - so it does not offend my “tender parts”. I had my unilateral mastectomy on the 11th of July, waiting for recon next summer. In the meanwhile, at least I can still wear my usual stock.
I too am 32E and struggled to find suitable mastectomy bras in this size. I did get a sports bra from M&S a few years ago which was really comfortable, though very plain, but this has been discontinued. Last year I managed to find a really pretty one in the Womanzone catalogue called amourette. I had to wait 2 months as it was out of stock but it was worth the wait.
I have just purchased a black lacy bra from Debenhams called Fantasie which seems ok. I think you can also get this in white and nude.
I don’t know if it’s me but I had a look at the pocketed M&S bras and couldn’t see any way you could get a prothesis through the small space provided.
I went to m&S this week and was measured ( this took ALL my courage, even tho I’ve know they’ve seen it all before) and they measured me as 34DD which gives me a bit more scope…will lookk both Debenams & womanzone
thanks sappho!
