Finishing up with chemotherapy and have my first Zoladex injection tomorrow - what to expect?! :folded_hands:t2:

Good luck for tomorrow and congratulations on finishing chemo. I have my first Zoladex on Monday! No idea what to expect either x

Hi there,

I used ametop/numbing cream on my tummy beforehand. It’s not pleasant but it’s quick. Tbh after everything else you have probably been through, it’s a drop in the ocean. I took my husband for a hand hold the first time, but now go alone.

Do the cream, don’t look at the needle and make sure you have a nice coffee/treat after.

I have a bit of joint pain for a few days after but really no problems.

Good luck x

This is really helpful thank you.

Although too late for numbing cream for the morning eek! I will ask GP to prescribe me some for next month though, good tip :+1:t2:

I’ll be heading to work after so will make sure I’ve got some paracetamol on me and stop off for an iced vanilla latte as a reward on the way!!

Thank you x

My nurse uses a freeze spray - she sprays a liberal amount on tummy and then does the injection quickly. Could be worth asking about that. I’ll be honest and say, there is a bit of a “ouch” moment, but it’s so quick, then it’s over.

You might have a small menstrual bleed, I did. The nurse said it was OK, and possible in the first couple of weeks. Anything after that you need to get in touch.

I started on monthly injections, then moved onto 3 monthly.

Hope all goes well.

Thanks so much for sharing, interesting about the menstrual bleed, I didn’t know that!

I’ve also been out on monthly jabs, which is going to be an extra chunk of life admin! :see_no_evil_monkey: x

Agree with others. Buy emla numbing cream from boots chemist. Put it in lower abdomen 30mins before appointment (below & to the side of belly button). Cover with a dressing.

It’ll be over in a minute.

If you have pucked prescription up from chemist open the box & the leaflet will show you placement.

Good luck

It wasn’t too bad thank you! A bit sore and stingy but very quick as you said.

Hoping not to get too much in the way of fluey / achey side effects now :crossed_fingers:t2:

They also offered to give me the pneumococcal vaccine today (handy after being hospitalised with pneumonia during my third chemo cycle!!) so I accepted and now I have a sore arm as well as a sore belly
