I have to take a course of subcutaneous injections (10) before my next cycle of chemotherapy, and have taken 3 so far. I was advised to stick to the same time every day and randomly chose 5 pm. Unfortunately the pain in my bones, which flits around my body, as a consequence of this drug, is keeping me awake most of the night. I would like to alter the time I take this drug to much earlier in the day, when it is easier to distract myself from the side effects. Is this possible even by say, taking it an hour earlier each time?
Hello nell5,
Thank you for posting. Bone pain due to filgrastim injections can be difficult and it is understandable you want to change the timing of your injections.
Although, the injection should be given at about the same time each day, sometimes the timing can be changed to help manage side effects this is decided on an individual basis. We would suggest that you speak with your own cancer doctors, the chemotherapy unit or the hospital pharmacist to discuss this. Most chemotherapy units have a 24 hour helpline you can call for advice.
Some people also find taking ibuprofen or paracetamol around the time of the injection helpful in managing bone pain.
