Flu symptoms

Had my 1st FEC last Thursday. It went ok, much less scary than I was expecting. Having my treatment through a port was probably much less stressful than I imagined. What I wasn’t expecting was to go back the next day for an injection in my stomach. Sickness hit me pretty full on 1st day, so went in for my jab without really asking many questions. I was expecting to feel a little better today (day 4), but if anything feel worse with flu-like symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this feeling? Would be good to know how other have coped…

Sharon Hi Ifinished chemo Aug 19th and for first week after treatments i got flushing of face neck itchy eyes bit of a dry cough and achey joints (which can be cold/flu symptoms aswell remember it is flu season now anyway so it may be flu but i would check youre temperature a couple of times a day and if it goes up over 37.5-38d celcius then phone chemo nurse or out of hours team straight away. You can take neurofen or anti histamine to relieve symptoms as long as temp not up xx julie

Hi Sharon,

I had FEC 1 last Tuesday a.m. - felt fine till I stood up at 1800hrs and had to have words with the porcelain god approx hourly till bedtime! I was ok on Wed but stayed in bed all day resting, Thurs felt fine, up but housebound & then back to work Fri feeling sort of normal. I haven’t felt any flu like symptoms but as Julie said, it is buggy season so keep an eye on your temp - and drink as much as possible. My unit emphasised that they’d rather hear from me over niff, naff & trivia than have me needing to be admitted because I didn’t call.

Take care xx Chris xx

Thanks Chris & Julie. Feeling much better now, day 5, and hoping that the worst of Fec 1 is now over! Fingers crossed. Thanks for your support x

Hi again Sharon and Chris just to let you know dont suffer in silence with nausea if you are really nauseous or vomitting ask for emend Isuffered till fecx3 but wish i had it sooner cos its brilliant and had no nausea after that, so do ask if you need it x

Thank you Julie! I’ll ask at my next session. I still can’t shake it off after 6 days, although it’s getting better. I really suffered but couldn’t tolerate the steroids which made it worse. Any other tips? One thing I would like to ask, but probably shouldn’t, did you personally feel worse after 2nd, and 3rd fec? Or does each one bring the same side effects? I’m trying to work out best weeks to catch up with work/social life which I’m sure is an impossible task.xx

Do not suffer with sickness! I had horrendous sickness and nausea and felt terrible on FEC. I had to really beg for Emend as it’s so expensive and had to have it agreed and signed off, bla bla bla. I had Emend for the 2nd and 3rd FEC and although it stopped me from being sick, I still felt nauseas - but this isn’t usual. I’m on docetaxal now and still taking Emend and not been sick or nauseaus at all.

Apparently if you had bad morning sickness or have travel sickness you are more prone to sickness?
