Fluid build up

Hey ladies,

Have any of you had experience of build up of fluid, 7weeks after bilateral mastectomy?

I have had several visits to breast clinic for fluid to be aspirated, Had my operation 12th september.

Can anyone advice me on this sitiation and why there seems to be build up of fluid

Thanks

Tracey

Hi LAdies,

I have again, had to go back to BC clinic to get fluid drained, they drained another 60mls off one side and nothing on the otherside thankfully.

Hi Tracey

As I understand it after a mastectomy the bruising around the scar can at first solidify. The body then naturally begins to break it down in order to liquify and be absorbed into the body. If you had lymph nodes removed then that is the fluids that would have been processed in the area, but now it is having to naturally absorb in the body at a much slower pace.

Well thats how the BC nurse explained things to me on my 3rd visit to drain fluid build up.
I too had a mastectomy 7 weeks ago. I feel really well I hope you do to.

Carol

I had a build up of fluid following mastectomy but I also had reconstruction with an implant and thought the fluid build up was mainly because of the implant.
It was aspirated a couple of times, 150mls, but is much better now. I had it done 8 weeks ago.
I also have a large haematoma and was told the same thing as Carol, it will gradually break down and be absorbed by the body. I was told it can take as much as 6 months.

Could you feel the fluid sloshing around? It was a very peculiar feeling.

Best Wishes

Sandra
