Follow up appointment- What a waste of time.

Sorry if this sounds like a moan ladies but I have had my 2 year check up today and what a waste of time it was.The waiting room was bedlam and there was a phone ringing constantly. When I asked the nurse why she said it should not go through to that phone so no one will answer it at least I know why I phoned every day for over a week before they answered!
I was with the doctor for 3 minutes. He did not introduce himself, asked how I was and when I told him I still had lots of pain he said “oh well” His examination took less than a minute and then he said see you next year. I was so shocked that I just walked out. Now I am so cross with myself because I should have said something and asked all the questions I wanted answers to. why do we put up with it.
Has any one else had this experience and if so what did you do
Thanks
Hilary

Yes Hilary I have had similar experiences, it really messes with your head, well it has mine. Not sure what to suggest you do since I have not been able to advise myself. I suppose if you have any concerns that you feel have not been answered get back to the clinic, breast nurse(who I found useless really) or/and of course back to your GP with questions/worries. I think in reality it is to a degree a bit of a lottery, the docs, consults, nurses ARE people, employees and I suspect are probably overloaded, so we get shunted through cos there is no other way to do it with budget restrictiones etc.
I think that if you are worried you must insist on being heard!

Hi Hilary

Do give the helpline a ring and have a chat with one of the nurses here who I’m sure will give you some information on what to do next.

Kind regards,

Hi everyone,

I wonder too whether you could maybe contact patient liason (PALS) and ask if there is anything you can do to get a more satisfactory follow up appointment? I just think waiting another year before you have any questions answered is a long time. Maybe they could help arrange a more satisfactory appointment? We arent very good at speaking up for ourselves and its not good.
best of luck

I’m very lucky as my yearly check is done at a post BC review clinic on a Friday morning. It is very quiet as there are few clinics on a Friday. At the last one,I had the final appointment of the morning and there was no-one else in the waiting room.
