For Zotam - Michael Rosen's Sad Book

Hi Sue

I know you still log onto the forums from time to time - I really didn’t know where to post on the new site but reckoned that you would be keeping an eye on everyone in the secondaries forum, so I just wanted to let you know about a book that has helped me on a day to day basis. Its called ‘Michael Rosen’s Sad Book’ and it was written by the Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen after the death of his son. The words and pictures are powerful, moving and very real, there is so much of me in this book I feel I could have written it myself! It is written so simply so is a book that could be given to children who may be coming to terms with the loss of a parent or sibling or other family member.

Often think about you Sue. Take care. Love xxx

I have this book too.It is beautifully written about the death of a loved one. When I was a teacher I used to read Rosen’s ‘Eddie poems’ to children from 7 to 16 they were very funny and the kids loved them especially the birhday poem and the French holiday.I was so sad to hear of Eddie’s death and bought The Sad Book as soon as it came out.I would recommend it to any family facing a bereavement.

just to say after reading these posts, I ordered this book, it came today, and I agree it is a very simple, moving book, about a difficult subject. I think it is primarily aimed at children, but suitable for anyone and very well illustrated too.

I have only just seen this post. Thank you so much for that. I will get the book as it sounds really good. I also got the one that Jane recommended ‘You’ll Get Over It’ which too is good. Sometimes you feel as if you are the only person in the world who feels as you do but of course you aren’t and it is some comfort to know that some people do truly understand.
I am Ok …still take each day as it comes because each day can be so different. Mothering Sunday this weekend … not good as Lisa always made so much of it and last year gave me some lovely things and we had a lovely day as she was feeling quite good still and very optimistic then despite it being just before her brain op. Seems strange to know that I will never be called Mum again.
Yes you are right I do log on to check on you all but don’t make many comments but I do like to read your posts and keep up with your news.
Thank you again for recommendimg the book, I will look on Amazon now.
My love to you all

I got Michael Rosen’s Sad Book and it made me cry. Lovely book for grownups as well as children.

Sue…Hope Sunday doesn’t feel too tough. Remember with tears and smiles how much you were loved by Lisa.
