Found a lump in armpit - really scared

I’ve just used the ask a nurse service but I’m really worried so I’ll post this here too:

I’ve just found a lump just above my armpit. It is small, about the size of a pea and fairly hard. It feels sort of attached but moveable. It felt like it was quite deep inside and now if I feel for it I can’t find it.
I’ve looked at the “Changes to look and feel for” page and my lump is a bit higher than on the diagram with the armpit showing - I think it’s just above where the hair starts. It’s not painful at all.
I have two very similar lumps like this on each lip of my vagina which have been there for years.

My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer exactly a year ago on the 10th and I’m really scared this could be the same. I suffer with severe anxiety and this is really worrying me. Should I be worried? Should I go to the doctor or should I wait to see if I can find it again, or if it disappears or gets bigger?
I’m 22.

Hi CT

You are also welcome to call our helpline for a chat with one of our specialist nurses or trained helpliners, the line is open weekdays 9-5 and Sat 9-2 on 0808 800 6000.

Best wishes
Lucy

Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately because of my anxiety I would be unable to call the helpline.

I’m having a mild panic attack over this.

CT ,take a deep breath, slowly in and out. Its hard not to panic but to reassure you at your age it is much less likely to be anything sinister.I had a lump under my arm and in my breast at your age and both were nothing to worry about, although I panicked at the time.I am now 45.
Can you phone your GP? Its best to get it seen to as soon as possible,so you can put your mind at rest,as it is causing you so much panic.Remember it is very unlikely to be cancer.
Please try to relax and either call your GP or the helpline,I am sure both are used to people being in a panic.
Big hugs

It could be something as harmless as a blocked sebaceous duct or small cyst. If you have been manipulating it, you may have cleared it. However, as Dot says, it really is best to get it checked out by your GP.

Thank you everyone. I managed to get an emergency appointment with a doctor (mine was unavailable) who said it’s just a bit of muscle or something. But even before he felt it he said it was unlikely as I’m only 22 and if it was breast cancer the lump would have been in my breast, and only in my armpit if I’d already had breast cancer.

So thank you for all your helpful replies.

Wow, so weird, I’ve just seen your post on DigitalSpy and came over here to view my own threads etc!!!

Hope you feel a bit better about thingsx

Always be sure to get any lumps checked if they hurt or not just to be on the safe side it’s no good leaving things you would only worry more. xxxxxxxx
