Found a lump

Hi - I found a lump in my right breast about 3-4 weeks ago. I left it for a while in case it was hormonal. I saw my GP last week and she has referred me to a breast specialist who i’m seeing tomorrow evening. I’m 39yrs old and I had my son 18 months ago which i now know is a risk factor for BC + he was in SCBU and so I only expressed breast milk and didn’t get the chance to breastfeed. My lump is by my nipple at approx 1 o’clock and is very hard and painless and feels like it has a ridge in it. I’m so worried - the past 2 days have gone so slowly i just want my appointment to be here.
Thanks for listening x

Hi Tinks39

Welcome to the Breast Cancer Care discussion forums, I’m sure your fellow forum users will be along shortly to give you some good support.

In the meantime I have posted for you below a link to one of BCC’s publications you may find helpful. Also I have moved your post from the ‘how to get started’ forum into the ‘have I got breast cancer forum’. It’s a common error for new users to do, don’t worry you’ll soon get the hang of using the forums, but if you have any problems just ask.

Hi Tinks

Sorry you have found yourself in this worrying positions, especially as you should just be enjoying your little boy. You have done exactly the right thing by having the lump checked out quickly and I am pleased you have got an early appointment. We all understand how worried you are. Remember a lot of these lumps turn out to be benign. Take care and good luck with your results- make sure they check you thoroughly and and are confident in the results. Dx

Hi Tinks
Id echo what Midge says. Its natural to worry when you find a lump, but the wait is often worse than the result. Your mind goes into overdrive and scenarios set about ‘what if’. But all I can say even if the result isnt what you want, there is lots of help, info and support here.
Youve picked it up really quickly and done absolutely the right thing in getting an appt.
Best wishes for tomorrow-and keep your chin up if you can.
Cathie xx

Thanks Cathie and Midge - I really appreciate you both replying to me so quickly. I called the consultants secretary today and she was really helpful - I was worried that because its an evening appointment no investigations would take place but she says if he needs to a fine needle aspiration he’ll do it tommorrow and if I need a mammogram or U/S that would be on Friday. I feel better now i know a bit of what i might expect. Maybe he’ll feel the lump and won’t need to do anything - fingers crossed!!
I’ll let you know what happens,

Hi Tinks…a couple more hours and you’ll have your appointment over with…(((big hugs)))

Thankyou all so much for your lovely messages of support. I saw the consultant who at first said it didn’t seem too worrying and did a fine needle aspiration. however he then said it was much harder than he expected and not a cyst (which i was hoping it was!) as he couldn’t draw off clear fluid. He has sent what he got out for analysis and I’m having a mammogram and ultrasound tomorrow (i have to call at 8.30 this morning to get a time. so i don’t really know anymore but funnily enough feel better now something is being done. He was very reassurring and said ‘even if we find something we’ll just deal with it’. I also told my Dad last night who’s a doctor (retired now) and he was equally reassurring. I’m going to tell my Mum today who i know will be very worried.
I’ve also been getting some sort of pins and needle feeling in my back directly behind my breast? Has anyone else had this? I told him and he didn’t really say anything.
More waiting!!!
love,
Lucy x

tinks im glad you are feeling a bit more reassured from your appointment… hope they manage to get some results for you from the FNA.

when you get your mammo and USS tomorrow they may want to do a biopsy under ultrasound to get more information about the lump too.

will be thinking of you.

The hospital just called and the radiologist is coming in this afternoon to do my scans - i’m pleased i’ll know today but a bit worried that the consultant is coming in specially! Anyway at least the worry will be over today. x

its 1 day less waiting and as you say at least you will know.

sending big hugs

HI Tinks…as lulu says its one day less to wait and waiting is more often the worst thing…Glad you are having things sorted more promptly now. Gentle vibes coming your way…

Go for your routine primary care or your gynecologist.just want to wish you luck for your appointment.

Sounds like good news! US and mammogram look good - had a core biopsy so waiting for results but the radiologist was confident it is a fibroadenoma. Very relieved and will feel even better when i have the results back clear!
Thanks so uch everyone for being so lovely and supportive! xxx

fabulous news tinks you must be so relieved.

think you need a big glass of wine to celebrate.
