Found Another Lump

Was diagnosed with BC in April 2010. Had Lumpectomy,Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and currently on Tamoxifen.
I had a reduction on my other breast in April 2011 and really pleased with the results, but last week whilst in bed I felt a lump on the outer edge of my nipple.
My breast is not distorted in any way when I move my arm (like my other BC breast did)and I can grab hold of the lump, which is only small. My husband felt it too and feels I should get in touch with my BCN immediately, but I have a check up on Jan 18th and feel that waiting a couple of weeks shouldn’t make that much difference.Am I right in thinking that?

I personally would get in touch ASAP and get your appt bought forward otherwise it’s another two weeks of extra waiting, and for me waiting is the worse part xxxx

You 're so right about the waiting Lindsyloo. Think I will give my BCN nurse a call on Monday otherwise I will be prodding and poking this lump for the next 2 weeks
Thanks for your reply

Glad to be of help, may not make a difference to the outcome but will help you post ate of mind x

Dont wait - get your appt brought forward as soon as you can, they are normally pretty good about squeezing you in if you have history. Good luck. Ruby.x

Thanks Lindsyloo and Ruby. Took both your advice and got an appointmentment to see my Breast Surgeon on Monday. He says the lump is highly unlikely to be Cancer again.May possibly be an internal stitch that hasn’t dissolved yet,but just to make sure,he has made me another appointment for 2wks time to have a mammogram, ultrasound and possibly another biopsy.
Well I learnt something new about this damned disease too! This new lump is movable and not like my other BC lump at all and when I asked why I needed further tests then, my surgeon said because when cancers start off very small, they don’t have the same characteristics as when they they are bigger.Did anyone else know that?

franca hope your next two weeks won’t seem too long & results will be good…
all i know about this damn disease is that the nature of the beast is that it is unpredictable!
love kathx

glad you bought it forward are they are taking it seriously, my onc thought my lump was as scar tissue but did the tests and it is cancer, so never take no for an answer if you can feel it get it tested, it is the only way for peace of mind

Hi Lindsyloo, When were you diagnosed and what treatment have you had so far?
Surgeon said that he could feel the lump, but that the chances of it being Cancer again was 1 in 5,000 and he didn’t seem particularly worried. I wasn’t going to ring and get it checked out as I have another hospital appointment tomorrow at the Radiotherapy Clinic, but my BS wanted to check the lump first, before I go to clinic tomorrow.
To be honest with you, I’m not as worried as much as my husband is about it because it isn’t like the other one I had,but I know that not all Breast Cancers look and feel the same, even if you have a reoccurrence it can be completely different,so I am a little concerned that the Surgeon said he wants to investigate it further.
My tests are booked for the 31st Jan,which is two weeks away,so Surgeon can’t think it’s anything sinister either.
Thanks Lindsyloo

Oh my goodness Linda, I am so sorry to hear that this is your 4th time with Breast Cancer. You have had a really rough ride over the past 5yrs,haven’t you. No wonder you advised me to go and get my lump checked out.And I told my husband that I felt stupid ringing up the hospital, because the lump is so small.
If you don’t mind me asking, how old were you when you were first diagnosed? Did you feel a lump each time you were diagnosed? Sorry,I hope you don’t mind me asking these questions.Feel free to ignore answering,if it is too personal.
Anyway, the main thing is that I’m getting seen to now. But I sincerely hope that whatever treatment you choose this time Linda, it kills all the little blighters and you see the back end of Cancer for good.
Good Luck Linda.Take Care and Thank-you once again for advising me to checked up.I might not have gone

Forgot to ask you Linda if any of your cancers were Lobular,as mine was xxx

Hi Franca,
sorry for the late reply
mine was ductal, I was 50 when I was 1st Dx I am now 55, I was waiting to be sent for my first mammo when I found my first lump, the secon was found on my annual mammo, and I found both the third and forth, but on the forth one the once was not convinced it was cancer just scar tissue, but I knew, and when the results came back he was very shocked.

Only just got my laptop working again Linda and noticed your post today. It must have been a very tough decision for you to make, but only “YOU” know what’s best for you and I wish you all the best with your next treatment.
You were only young too, when you were diagnosed. Can you remember if any of the lumps you felt moved at all? My one moves and doesn’t seem to have gotten any bigger since I found it a month ago. I’m starting to worry a little now,but appointment is on Thursday,so don’t have to wait much longer.
I have another question to ask my BS come Thurday, which has been bugging me all week. I received a letter last week about this weeks appointment. When reading the histology report on it,it says something completely different to the original one I have.My original one states that I had only a sentinel node biopsy which was negative, but this letter says that I had 3 nodes removed,of which 1 was positive. How can they make such a mistake? One of those letters is obviously wrong, but which one? I’m really upset at this

I would be upset as well, you need honest answers, if one node was + then you should have been offered a full axillary Clearance.
none of my tumours that I could feel wre moveable, whilst I was told cancer tumours on the whole do not move however there is always an exception to the rule so always better to be safe tHan sorry

linda xxx

hi franca
you certainly do need to be asking questions!
my last tumour (recurrence) was moveable & felt like a pea & found by me - was told v unusual! (not a lot of comfort!!)i have found all my tumours.
so good luck thurs - take a list of questions with you!
k x

Thanks Kath,My lump is roughly pea-sized too,but hasn’t grown at all over the last 4wks.I thought that all cancer lumps didn’t move and after telling/showing the consultant in the Radiotherapy Clinic on Friday, she said she is also glad that it is being investigated further, as besides the lump she could feel, that that breast was very lumpy too.Just hope that BS is right and that it’s only a nipple stitch that hasn’t dissolved yet. It’s taken me almost 2yrs to get where I am now and feel slightly “NORMAL” again.
Thanks Kath
Take Care

Franca

just wanting to wish you good luck on thursday… i have had BC 3 times… found my first lump and it was a lumpy lump… the second was found on routine follow up 3 years later in the other rise and then the last i had found a lump which had previously been investigated and was fatty necrosis but felt it was getting bigger but didnt get it checked and just waited or my routine MRI which picked it up… it felt quite smooth as did no 2.

glad your getting it checked and really hoping its not anything serious xxx

This damned Cancer is a b…ger and reading everyones posts of how different their lumps are,how they they found it,what it felt like and whether they moved or not, just shows hows sneak the little s…t is.
Thanks Lulu.I’m almost convinced that this new lump is nothing sinister and I’m not particularly worried about the rsults.Just anxious about all that poking, prodding and needles again.Hope that you are ok Lulu
Thank-you for all your replies and support
Much appreciated

Thank you ladies for your advice and support. Excellent news today. Had lump aspirated and examined. Lump was non specific and nothing sinister. What a relief. It will probably stay the same size or get smaller and surgeon will check it again in 6mths time. As for the letter,I didn’t have any affected nodes and bs apologised twice for making this mistake. so good news all round. Hope all you ladies are well thanks again . Franca xxx
