Friends needed please!!!!

evening ladies,
Constipation??.. whats that? dunno what i’m doing/eating but it’s mind your backs in this house at the moment and such terrible tummy ache too!
Been to see the dr today, he also agreed that i was lady macbeth in waiting and i should have some ‘make me happy’ type pills.Joking aside, he was very helpful and understanding - then signed me off until 14th May! oh well,i need to recuperate apparently.
OH, the cheese - who started that?? it’s the only thing i can taste, oh and white wine cos it’s nice and cold!
Not that i’ve ever eaten cardboard, but why does everything else taste like it?? my mouth feels all furry and rough inside-YUCK!
I must tell you, when i called into Boots yesterday to buy something for my brother-in-laws birthday, very nice lady serving the counter, busying herself, asked if i needed any help. When i’d found what i wanted, i asked her over.At the cashtill, (she’s still chatting away) she said, 'here you are, have yourself a treat, theres a five pound voucher off ulay cream (or the other offer was 5.00 of haircare) or you can… maybe just choose a nice face wash!! bless her, she didn’t know where to put herself! made me laugh though!
Anyway ladies,
Back later, OH home,
Big Hig Lou xxx

Hi all,
The warning to lay off the cheese came too late Jacqui-think I ate half a pound-started and couldn’t stop…fortunately didn’t have any nightmares! Lou, I have found that I am preferring red wine as the white is too acidic though drinking it with a straw so it won’t irritate my mouth…suppose I could just not drink it BUT…!!
Well all you people down south, the white stuff caught up with us today when we were rudely awakened with younger daughter yelling “YES it’s white outside no college!!” She has to drive into Aberdeen, an hours drive so a long lie beckoned-didn’t see her til lunchtime after that… in the meantime we are wide awake!
Got a script for gelclair a gel mouthwash which after a day has made a huge difference to ulcers…not completely gone but an awful lot better, so will have that for next time. Got a tip from chemo nurse when I phoned that I should suck ice during next treatment as it has the same effect as the cold cap, reducing the bloodflow to the mouth so reducing the amount of chemicals taken up and hopefully reducing SE on the mouth-will def give it a go!
Anyway off to put on my jammies and feet up. Hope everyone well and keeping warm! hugz,
Lyn xx

I don’t believe it! Just typed loads and it’s vanished! Bloody, bloody technology - who invented it. Just swapped broadband today to ‘chatchat’ - you know the one, and it keeps messing up - IT’S NOT BLOODY GOOD ENOUGH’. God help who answers the 'phone to me in the morning.

Am trying to mellow, just in case this all goes belly-up and somebody ‘up there’ is watching me. Kind of on the move from an atheist to an agnostic - you never know!

You lot do make me laugh. Lou, I know what you mean about ‘mind your backs’ - same here. Worried that chemo’s not doing its stuff, cos have no sickness and can’t stop eating (it all still tastes lovely), But I suppose the distinct lack of blonde curls must mean something.

And I’m sure I didn’t have these murderous intentions as bad as this before. I was in the doc’s waiting room today, and there this was this spotty oik chewing gum and making the worst slapping noises (my pet hate anyway), well - I don’t know how I stayed on my chair. Steam coming off me nearly set off the sprinklers.

Well I’m off for an early night as I have the weekly Friday treat with the surgeon in the morning. Take car to station multistorey, cram onto rush hour train - mind MY back, hour and a half trip including 20 min walk to the building site that is Bart’s, up to 3 hr wait, then surgeon rips off dressing, says “aah, perhaps we’ll try…” or whatever he fancies tomorrow.

Ah well, we can pray for snow, he might not be able to get there from his ivory tower.

Sweet dreams to all, xx Jacq xx

Good luck tomorrow jacqui and hope they make some progress with your back. Know what you mean about eating-I had this misguided idea that if any good was to come out of having this treatment (apart from the obvious!!) it might be that I would lose weight (I’m not overweight I’m undertall!) and in typical me fashion I have a stomach like cast iron…even with the ulcers! That combined with not working and not exercising the same amount-I feel like I am putting on weight…sod’s law isn’t it??
On that note am off to bed too.
LOL,
Lyn xx

Hi All, Actually managed to get out today and do some shopping - yipee! Have been going stir-crazy indoors so to be out doing something normal was great. Sick of horrible taste and yucky mouth but I’m sure it’ll pass soon, constipation is driving me gaga but taking what dr gave me and eating loads of roughage and hoping for the best. Fridge has decided to break on me - temp inside fridge is 15 degrees so have put food outside in garden! Why couldn’t the freezer part have broke, I’ve got a seperate chest freezer but oh no, fridge decided to pack up. URGHHHH! Ate tub of potato salad for lunch as I fancied it and could actually taste it, now have terrible stomach cramps so I think I just can’t win. Jacq, hope your appt goes well and dr has something useful to tell you, what a performance just to get there, methinks you’ll need a good stiff drink after all that! Lyn, glad the mouthwash is helping, these SE are pretty rotten but at least there seems to be something to ease them when they strike. Lou, I think I’m responsible for the cheese thing, at the worst of it is it seems to make constipation worse!!! but there’s got to be some pluses somewhere, haven’t there? I’d gladly put up with the odd nightmare if I can enjoy something to eat, the cardboard taste is the pits, isn’t it? Well, off to take some anti-sick meds as tummy not feeling too clever. Hope all of you have a good day and feel alright. I’m gonna kick fridge to see if it responds…Love and huge hugs, Pat x

Hi all,
Hope everyones having a goodish day today? I’m feeling a bit better today, not quite so 'Lady Macbeth’ish anyway! the mouth still feels like a bird cage (seed and all!) but last chemo was a week ago so hopefully it’ll pass a bit soon.
Pat,(lol) did you enjoy the potatoe salad? they say a bit of what u fancy does you good! I get the oddest cravings, which usually end with awful tummy ache having eaten the offending food!
Masses of snow here today, Thomas was out with his cousin enjoying a snowball fight - they were soaked, but having great fun just the same.Glad you enjoyed ur shopping trip, it’s great to do something that feels a bit normal isn’t it? Were hoping to get tickets for the six nations, england v france on 15th March, would be lovely to have something to look foward too,
anyway ladies, big hugz, Lyn,Pat, Jackie et all,
Lou xxxx

Hi all. Well, thanks for all your good wishes for me with the doctor today. Doctor … what doctor?! By the time the staff realised that I was still sitting there after 3 and a half hours today - the doctor had pi**ed off home! Say nothing, am still absolutely fuming.

Apparently when I checked in at 10.15 (for 10.30 appointment) the lovely nurse said "Oh, I’ll check you in Jackie.) Nah, she didn’t - apparently she’s not too computer friendly and marked me in as a no-show! So usual fare on the Oyster - approx. £5, and only £12 on the carpark! What fun.

Managed to get the dressing changed before being sent on my merry way. Nurse said “Have you had surgery yet” (back looking like Frankenstein’s stitches all the way across - apart from the gaping hole of course.) Calmly explained that I had - last November. “Oh, but you obviously smoke” she said, “because of it not healing up” - “No” said I - “I don’t”. “Are you sure?” she said. Am I f**king sure? Sorry to say, I then totally lost it, and the dozy cow felt the full wrath of my tongue. She was the moron that broke the donkey’s back.

I think I need to stay away from people this weekend, 'cos everywhere I go there are coachloads of morons waiting to descend on me. Have to go, I think the Offy is calling for me. Hope you all had a better day than me! xx Jacq xx

Evening all
Sorry you’ve had such a rough day Jacq.
We still have lots of the white stuff around with more forecast for Sunday.I went to a friends for a few hours today and nearly came a cropper reversing off her steep drive. Endded up heading straight for a wall and my wheels just spun when I tried to go forwards. It took a lot of gradual bacwards and forwards and going very close to the wall to get away. At one point I thought I’d be there til the snow melts!
I’ve been feeling great today, much better than the last few days, but I’m already starting to dread next chemo on Tuesday. I keep trying to push it to the back of my mind but somehow it keeps cropping up in conversation. Also next week the dog is due to have a growth removed. I’ll be glad to have the results back from that. We’ve been talking about if a dog needs chemo do they go bald and if so does the insurance pay for a wig?!I’ve heard of chemo for dogs but I don’t think I’ve heard of them losing their hair.
My friend trimmed the fringe on my wig today but I really don’t know if I’ll use it. Hair looked and felt very strange even after such a short time. I actually feel comfortable bald and it’s going to be up to everyone else to get used to it. I only wear a hat outside because it’s so cold.
Good night all
Nicky x

Evening all,
thought I would just check in before heading for bed. What a rotten day for you Jacqui-hope the rest of the weekend is better? Did they say they would arrange another appointment soon? It’s the whole inconvenience as well as mucking you around-as if you didn’t have enough to cope with?
We have had more than our fair share of snow today-went to meet a friend at lunchtime and thought I would have to abandon the car and walk home-it’s all uphill from the town home and there were cars sticking everywhere. Looking a bit dubious for our theatre trip tomorrow as it is an hour’s trip though we are going part way by train, but even the trains were affected today!
Pat does this foul taste last the whole time between treatments or do you get a break at all? Ulcers improving but mouth is like a badgers bum!!
Lou, is that your LAST chemo or last one before the next one …if you know what I mean? Duh that sounds really stupid, but I can’t even think of getting to the last one…these last few weeks have been soooo long, and like you Nicky everyone wants to know when my next one is!
Anyway have a good weekend girls and I will check in again on Sunday providing we get away tomorrow. Love and hugz,
Lyn xxx

Hi Lyn,
In answer to the question about my chemo, i’ve just had no.2 out of 6.My mouth usually starts to feel better about 10 days after the chemo, initially it’s very sore and rough and yep, theres definately the feeling of a badgers bum in there too!lol!
We too had loads of snow today and felt well enough to manage a walk to do errands, bloody cold but ok! lovely new hat, but my coat kept pushing it up at the back so it dropped over my eyes! DOH! think it would stay better if there was some hair to ‘attach’ it too!
Oh Jackie, what a bloody awful day you’ve had! I would hope after all that they sort out another appt for you asap? and i would imagine that the nurse in question has been suitably given a piece of your mind? When i visited to see the dr before last RX, she was doing very well, asked all the right things then… CLANG!
Have you had your lump measured she asked? yes says i, it was 35mm. Ok she says, would you mind if i measured it now???
So i politley ( refrained from ripping in another bum hole for her!) informed her that said lump and the article it was attached too have been removed!!! Oh my goodness, i am so sorry!!! bit late now you’ve made yourself look a right idiot! when they have record file the size of a filing cabinet about you, don’t you think they would read them? aaargghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! mmmmm, and she’s deciding on my chemotherapy?? maybe i should be worried???
If anyone fancies a really cute and appropriate email sent to them, i can foward on,(not sure how we go about email adresses ect?)
Hope you have a good day on Saturday Lyn,have fun Saturday,Jackie, sending you a massive hug-me thinks you need one((())), Hi Pat and Nicky, enjoy the weekend too, hugz to all, post again on Saturday,
Lou xxxxx

Hey girls!!
don’t know how i did it but got a mug shot of me on the forum!!! lol!! taken last May - and with hair!!
Love to all,
Lou xx

Thanks for all your sympathy lovies. Had an apppointment to see oncologist for next Friday anyway, so they’re fixing for me to see the surgeon at the same time … won’t hold my breath though! Reading through my last grumble, what terrible language, must be more lady-like, sound so rough! Well, yesterday was allowed methinks.

Talking of ladylike, took a chance a few weeks ago and ordered a wig from “Who Flung Dung” (or words to that effect) in China - that’ll teach me! Looks like David Walliams/Matt Lucas’s “I’m a laydeee!” Oh, well - it was only 17 quid and free delivery!, might have a chop at it and see what happens, colour and quality’s ok, but resembles nothing at all like their photo!

What are you seeing at the theatre Lyn, anything exciting? Hope you get there and enjoy! My son-in-law’s boss has given him 2 top priced tickets for free to see El Divo and they’ve given them to me as a treat. (Haven’t told them, of course, but I’d much rather go and see Lemar or Amy Winehouse - getting on a bit - but still have a youngster’s taste of music.) Still, a night out’s a night out.

Can imagine you in that car Nicky, lol, I had a similar experience in mine the other day when I ventured out from my snowed-in car park. My next door neighbour (his posh, new car was very near to my old Micra) was up and under his nets kind of gripping his chest for some reason.

Lou, you look so sweet and young, aaaah - like butter wouldn’t melt … yeah, right! I look quite sweet too (much older unfortunately) - it lulls the masses into a false sense of security though don’t you find? I was going to get my daughter to put a mugshot on of me, but then the idiots will see me coming even clearer, and if I bump into somebody I insult they’ll know who to punch, so we’ll forget that. There’s bound to be somebody else at the Bart’s clinics who come on these forums!

I suppose we can exchange e-mail addresses with a PM, but I haven’t seen how to do that on this new site - will try and find out… Facilitator?!

There, look at that, didn’t blaspheme once! Have a good one ladies, xx Jacq xx

Evening
I hope everyone’s having a good weekend. Have you watched the start of the six nations Lou. England got off to a god start even if they weren’t playing very well. Hope you get the tickets for England/France. I’ve wanted to see England at Twickenham for a long time and now that my priorities have changed it’s on my “to do” list for next year. It needs to be a weekend trip for me and I think I’ll enjoy it more next year.
Has anyone else had watery, sore eyes? Mine are streaming and getting quite sore. It happened at the same time last cycle but at that point I put it down to wearing make up to compensate for no hair. However it cleared up while I stll wore makeup. It’s not a SE I’ve heard of for epi.
We had snow again overnight which was fun when the dog had a hydrotherapy appt at 8.30 20 miles away. I did at least manage not to get stuck this time.
Well both dogs are pulling toys out and trying to put them in my lap. I think that it’s time to give them some attention.
Night all, Nicky x

Hi everyone, Lou, love the photo. I didn’t know we could put pics up, not very techie so will get daughter to investigate. Nicky, yes, last time round my eyes got very watery and sore. it’s on the list of SE for FEC which I think has epi in it. Dr can give you soothing eye drops, my vision was also a bit blurry which can also happen. I’m overdue for an eye test but will wait til after treatment when eyes are hopefully back to normal. The taste thing seems to last for up to 2 weeks, although I still have the horrible taste in my mouth, my taste is starting to get a bit better and I’m on day 10. I hope Lyn made it for her theatre trip, I know some areas are still having travel problems coz of the snow. And Jacq, I loved your post and actually missed the blaspheming!!!‘Who flung dung’?! I almost googled it!!!lol. I’ve seriously completely gone off wearing my wig - I can’t bear having it on and it’s not that it irritates scalp or anything, it’s just not me looking back at the mirror. I can’t believe I actually feel more comfortable being bald than having the wig on, but I do and that’s that. Poor dog has had to suffer the indignity of wearing said wig, complete with my glasses and it’s the funniest thing since Todd Carty on Dancing on Ice. I know, I can hear you all saying ‘she needs to get out more’…! Couldn’t agree more, but if I can upload a pic of said (very gorgeous) dog, I will put it on forum. Well, it’s past my bedtime so wish you all a goodnight, love and big hugs, Pat x

Happy Sundays!
Jacq, lol!!! … do you think i might be a sheep in lambs clothing then??? mmmmmm,( whatever the saying is!) can be really lovely but do have a ‘sharp’ side, especially at the moment! will do anything for anyone, always glad to help… but don’t mess with lady with no hair!!! I hope your feeling ok today?
Hi Pat, easy (says she) to piccies on, if you go into your profile, the press browse, you can search your comp.for pictures…well sort of easy! lol! double click on the picture you want on and away you go!
Hi Nicky, glad you made it safely with the dog to the appt… we still have some snow here though the roads are clear.I think they forecast more for today? We have a few family run shops, this week has been a nightmare money wise - bloomin staff haven’t been able to get in either. I can’t bear to wear a wig either, never thought i would be happy just wearing a hat but i feel more self conscious in a wig? the thought of the dog wearing the wig made me lol this morning, we have sometimes put clothes on our dog, she looks so funny! stupisd thing is , she just lets us do it!
Well, i feel ok considering i only managed to get 3 hours sleep, when i eventuall nodded off the flippin birds were chirping - then Thomas came in at 7.10am - aarrrgggggg sent out with a flea in his ear! Think i might have a sleeping tab tonite, as OH was awake cos i woke him (lol) he not happy with me!
Anyway, off out for a bit, be back later,
Love Lou xxx

Hi all, Lou I think I will try and put pic up, maybe of me and said bewigged dog. Sun is shining brightly here and even tho it’s cold, all the slushy slippery stuff is almost gone. Must get hat on and get out for a while. Have loads of stuff to get on with indoors but the work can wait. Going to supermarket to find constipation cure - it’s really driving me nuts now and I even took some lactolose this am (chemo nusre said it can make you bloated but how much more bloated can I get!!!). Have tried fruit, veg, prunes, bananas, prune juice, senna tabs and nothings budging and I feel like a beached whale! Never mind, maybe a cold glass of water and a brisk walk will help things along… Hope everyone’s enjoying their sunday. Love and big hugs, Pat x

Hi Pat,

Sorry to hear you’re suffering with constipation problems. If you have a look a the top of this forum you will see as a ‘sticky’ the thread ’ Top tips to help get you through chemo’, there’s quite a few suggestions on here that other users have found have been helpful. It’s quite a long thread now so there’s plenty to read!
Hope you ‘get moving’ again soon.

Take care,
Jo, Facilitator

Blimey Pat, you’re brave! I wouldn’t stray too far from a loo/hole in the ground if I were you. You might find you’re up for a brisk run rather than a walk once things start rumbling!xx Jacq xx

LOL JacQ. I wish something would move, I’ve got lots of grumblings going on and little else. jo thanx for tip, I did look at that thread when I first joined and it’s a useful reminder. I may have to bake a go-cake tomorrow if all else fails. May see gp as not sure if it’s ok to take lactolose or fybrogel, will check and keep eating the fibre!!! love and hugs Pat x

Evening
Yet more snow and it’s no longer a novelty. I was really feeling fed up about it until I saw the news about the fires in Australia. Put things in pespective!
Pat, I can’t wait to see a picture of you and your dog with the wig. I don’t think that either of my muts would tolerate it. I know exactly what you mean about not being you any more with hair, I can’t believe how quickly I got used to it.I’m going to have to try to think of something original to do with my wig cos I don’t think that it will ever be used for the purpose intended.
I feel like tomorrow is my last day of freedom before the axe falls with my next chemo session on Tuesday. I did have a lot planned but it looks from the forecast like I’m going to have to cancel at least some of it. Not that I’m moaning aout the white stuff anymore.
Hope that you feel more comfortable soon Pat.
Nicky x
