Hi. I’d be interested to know what the average waiting time between end of chemo and start of rads is. I finished chemo on 4th Nov. Have just spoken to radiotherapy secretary and they had lost the letter from my onc (sent in Oct) so I don’t have an appointment until next Tues 6th Dec. She said I probably wouldn’t be starting now until Jan. My friend had rads 10 days after finishing chemo (she did go private though). Just wondered what other people’s experiences were- it seems a long time to wait.
NICE guideline is 31 days.
Remember that your chemo is more than likely a three week cycle. You still need a higher level of neutrophils to start rads so that’s three weeks spoken for. 31 days is a guide. Some ladies have waited longer.
hi daphnes-I had last chemo 12 days ago. went for rads planning today, they offered me choice of starting week before christmas or after christmas I asked would it make any difference and was told no none at all. so I opted to start after christmas, they though it was a good choice as it gave me more time to recover from chemo. I had WLE, and 6 lots of chemo.
Hi Daphne,
I started rads today, five weeks after chemo finished. I think it has given my body time to recover in between. From what I’ve read a week or two either way doesn’t affect the results.
