Genomic testing

onco dx
Hello, I was diagnosed with 12mm, 3mm and 7mm invasive ductal bc Er+ and her2 - . Nodes 0. All sent for retesting. Still waiting for results but not offered Onco Dx. Can you explain why as it seems to meet NICE guidelines

Hi @hormone you don’t mention the tumour grades. If they are all grade 1 then the NHS policy is not to send for genomic testing as chemotherapy would not be necessary. I know this because mine was Grade 1 with no node involvement. Obviously it does mean we don’t get a likely recurrence score but the test is predominantly to ascertain if chemo would be advantageous.

Hi hormone

Thank you for your post.

It’s understandable you’re wondering whether the Oncotype DX test should be offered to you.

Whether you might be offered chemotherapy depends on the specific features of your breast cancer and your individual prognosis. This is based on the information from your final pathology report.

As you say, NICE Guidance says Oncotype DX testing is an option for people who have a hormone receptor positive, HER2 negative breast cancer. However, as @Tigress says it’s used in those where the benefit of having chemotherapy is unclear so not everyone will need to be offered the test.

Once all your results are back from testing, your treatment team will be able to discuss your results and individual treatment plan with you. They will be able to tell you if the Oncotype DX test could be of benefit in your situation.
