Getting Diagnosed at 34

Hello Aroja.

Brave you, and well done. It all sounds so masssively scary, I know, and in truth it is scary. But they will save you. Don’t forget that. I’d recommend: 1. Try to keep googling to a minimum, when you really need to find stuff out. 2. If you are in the US, check on the past record of your surgeon. 3. Prepare questions in advance. 4. Take someone with you to appointments to help you remember to ask questions and remember things. It doesn’t matter how brave you are, or clever you are, it is still really hard to take everything in. I do hope this helps. All the very best to you.

Hello!

No, I live in the US. I’m starting treatment on Monday. Just like you I’m stage 2, HER2 positive grade 3. What was your experience with treatment? Are you in remission?

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I’m choosing to focus on positive stories like your daughter’s. I want this to be part of my past already. I have a 6 week old baby and the most wonderful husband waiting for me to recover. Thank you again. Wishing your daughter all the health and happiness in the world.

Is it normal to have such an aggressive treatment for stage 2? I’m having two different types of chemo (6 sessions) and targeted treatment for 12 months.

It is when it is HER2 positive. Those tumors are aggressive and before immunotherapy it was a crapshoot whether treatment would work. We now have a treatment that works fantastic for them but it’s long and arduous. But remember, it does end, and with that end the chances of you never having to hear the word breast cancer as it pertains to yourself is very, very good.

Thank you so much. Monday is my first chemo. I feel so encourage by all of you

I’m so glad because that’s why we’re all here. We know what it’s like. Good luck but I’m glad they’re starting treatment immediately. The sooner you get started the sooner you’re done.

I hope your first treatments went well!
I struggled with chemo and had to cut my treatment short. But I completed rads, all of the herceptin treatments and I’m three years into hormone therapy. I had hardly any issues with the herceptin and rads… a few aches and hot flushes with hormone therapy but I’m managing to work full time again.
I’m in remission at the minute. So far I’ve had 2 years of clear scans.
How you finding it all? Xx

That’s amazing. What type of diagnosis did u have? My is HER2 triple positive stage 2. So far I haven’t heard anything about hormone therapy since mine was hormone negative. I’m 3 days post first chemo. The second day (yesterday) was by far the worst. Veryyyy lethargic and my stomach is a bit off but overall I’m pretty good. I have a 7 week old baby girl so I’m trying my best to be upbeat without pushing myself too hard. I’m so happy to hear positive stories like yours. It gives me tremendous hope.
