Getting my head in gear!

Hello ladies,
moving over to this discussion thread, as waiting to start chemo after appointment with onc in next two weeks. CAT scan next, after Easter weekend.
Trying to think positively, and get as ready as possible, mentally and physically.
Any nutritional supplements that help with the chemo effects?
I am finding these discussions so helpful. Hope you all have a good week, if possible. Glad it’s Springtime.
Thanks and God bless you all,Ann xx

Hi Ann

I’m due to start chemo on Tuesday. Quite daunting but will be so glad to get started on some treatment as all I’ve had so far are tests and scans (they are doing chemo first to reduce the size before removal, and then radiotherapy). I just keep trying to remember that although I’ll be feeling rotten, the result after the chemo should be a positive thing.

Loads of good tips if you look down through the thread (I have been out over the weekend collecting all sorts of goodies as recommended by the others, Lucozade, ginger biscuits, soft toothbrush, mouthwash, babys brush etc.) . Re: supplements - you may want to look on the website for Penny Brohn Cancer Care - they have loads of advice about supplements although you are advised not to take them for a couple of days either side of your treatment. A lot of it seems to be about boosting your immune system. You can buy one-a-day supplements form Boots that a specifically for this, e.g. Immunace. Echinacea is also good for the immune system.

Would be good to keep in touch with you, and anyone else about to start chemo soon

Lots of love

hi sarah and ann,
sarah…looks like you’ve got most of your essentials…your onc., should be able to give you mouthwash free of charge if you need it too.

ann… sarah has given some some wonderful advice, talk to your BCN and onc., though before taking any supplements.

wishing you both well with your forthcoming chemotherapy.

Hi and thanks, Karen and Sarah.
Yes, I’ll check with oncologist before taking any supplements, and hopefully it wil be ok to do so.

I’ll be thinking of you, Sarah, tonight and tomorrow, and praying you feel ok during first chemo session. I’m not looking forward to it and yet want to get on with it now and feel more secure. from what I’ve read on here, the effects kick in a day or two later, is that right?

I keep reminding myself that hundreds of ladies are having chemo every week and getting through it ok. We are made of stronger stuff than we think and the support of friends helps so much doesn’t it?

Take care of yourselves and thanks for replying, it’s such a help to me!

Thanks Ann & Karen

Ann - I completely agree with not looking forward to it and yet at the same time wanting to get on with the treatment. It definitely seems that everyone has their own individual ability to cope and own reactions to the drugs - just keeping my fingers crossed ! Bring it on !!
