Tracey - I did get a wig stand only cheap but its flat pack so just put it away when i want to, the ladies at the wig shop said the wig would be ok stored in a box anyway but i think your right sometimes they are worn to make OTHER people less awkward and it stops the stares as well, although i do have a works doo to go to soon so i might wear it,haven’t been to work since surgery last July so think i should make the effort it will be less daunting for when i go back in the spring - had no hair a while now but just wear hats everywhere its whatever your most comfortable in. I bought some semi permanent false eyebrows! …not sure what they will look like not used them yet as i still have my own for the moment, i booked LGFB can only get in - in March! although i have to call another hospital next week to see if i can get in there in Jan which would be better, you really have to book in early.
Hi Guys…
Phew what a day spent afternoon in ultrasound dept having my legs scanned for a possible dvt…but thank goodness all was clear so off to France this evening for a weekend of fun and normality with 8 year old son!!!
Oh and I got a place at the LGFB workshop in Exeter on 7th Dec…they have places before Xmas if anyone is in this area. I have never used make up so it will be an enlightening experience as I have no idea what to do with the stuff! I will be glam for the first time in my life at the ripe old age of just 50!!
Hi girlies
Thanks for the info on baldness and the shower.
Can I ask, where do you find out the info about LGFB sessions, I could do with some guidance on things like eyebrow pencils, as I am not a great makeup wearer.
Thanks Jane. Have bought a fine eyebrow pencil. Shopped like a mad woman yesterday before my next session on Monday. It looks quite good actually- clinique one, only place I could get a nice subtle blonde colour.
Shell, thanks. False eyebrows sound scary but intriguing! I have a feeling that my getting ready to go out time might become a lengthy experience…I am looking forward to the LGFB session. They have put me down for any cancellations too, so hopefully I should be able to go in late Dec or Jan.
I went out last night, which seems to have been a bit of a mistake. What has everyone found about alcohol? Having had a reasonably high tolerance, and someone who loved a glass or 3 of wine, it just does not seem to agree with me…
Tracey
I do wear a small amount of make up on occasions, but I’m sure I’ll be fairly hopeless at eyebrows and eyelashes. Mind you I’m old enough to remember the pale faces and lips of the sixties, when we used to draw eyelashes under our eyes! will check out the LGFB sessions, I’ll need the help.
I have found with alcohol that it seems to take more to get me drunk!! But I have found that even if I only have one drink in the evening I really feel it the next day! I haven’t managed to get totally trollied whilst I’ve been having treatment so I do not know how a bad a bad hangover will be!! It’s my birthday next week and I have lots of champers to drink - so I will let you know how I get on with that!!!
Hi Bird, LOL. Will wait with interest for the results of your 'getting trollied ’ experiment! Don’t let me put you off, but after 4 glasses of wine, and I was not feeling the effects, I felt like crap the next day! Lesson learned, my body is now a temple!
On that subject, ie bodies and temples - is anyone following a dairy free diet? What are the reasons behind that? I would be very interested to hear what you guys have to say on that. But, with my coffee, and now my wine gone, I am not sure I can take much more depravation! FEC2 in morning though (good luck to you too Janvis, will be thinking of you), not likely to be fancying much more than water, fruit etc.
All the best to everyone,
Tracey
Dairy free diet is ‘supposed’ to be better for cancer sufferers…however due to prem menopause that many of us will/are going through due to treatment the osteoporosis risk is much higher and personally I think cutting out dairy could be a problem.
I produce all my own meat, most of my own veg and for many years produced all my own milk and cheese etc. We eat meat about 2-3 times a week max, dairy we eat a lot of including butter which has to be better for you in moderation than manmade ‘spreads’ with all their additives!
We are all as a family disgustingly healthy and not overweight, the bc in my case is a family thing and I don’t think a good healthy balanced diet has anything to do with it really, in fact the benefits out weigh the problems. Now stressing over diet and life in general has lots of ill effects both physical and mental!
Hi Ladies, just wanted to say a big thanks to you all because you have helped advise me on buying a lot of stuff for my Mum. Would love to hear how the false eyebrows go as we have still got that bridge to cross. I also wanted to recommend Clarins tinted moisturiser - I got this for Mum (who NEVER wears makeup) and it really suits her plus its easy to use (not cakey), so if you cant get into the LGFB sessions, you might want to try it out. Found some fabulous hats today on chemotherapyheadwear.com - great autumnal colours. Will let you know if they are any good when they arrive.
The dairy free thing seems to stir up a lot of controversy. I know someone who’s had breast cancer and has tried to get me to give up dairy but personally I’m a bit sceptical. It’s been advocated by a woman called Jane Plant who looked at rates of breast cancer in places like China where they don’t eat a lot of dairy and where breast cancer rates are low. I’ve got a couple of her books and she does make some good points about how diet can effect health etc - I wouldn’t dismiss it all - but the thing that makes me sceptical is that she advocates the same kind of diet for all kinds of illnesses. But each to their own - I think you have to go with what you’re comfortable with. I take the view that a good balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg is the best thing. It’s an interesting one though.
By the way, what is the thinking behind keeping off the coffee? I’m still drinking it, though I’m trying to keep off the alcohol at the moment.
Hope everyone is doing OK. I’ve got FEC5 on Thursday so hope to enjoy some good days before then.
Hi all
Interesting thread. Have just tried to eat healthily (except for the odd chocolate…).
Have had the odd drink since dx, but not starting chemo until Friday.
I would also like to know the thinking behind coffee, as my world without coffee would be such a poorer place. I only have a couple of mugs a day but really enjoy them.
Never been very good with eating healthy just cakes and more cakes ! but since diagnosis i have been eating better, i don’t think i could cut out dairy as i’m quite a small build and have been told to eat more butter, full cream milk with porridge e.t.c… so i think like amanda said i’m just eating a lot more fruit & veg plus it helps with the digestive system and you need all the help you can get when on Chemo !
hoylie- I will keep you up to date with the false eyebrows there a bit strange as there not hair but semi permanent tattoos but there supposed to be very realistic you get a card of 10 for about £5 (simplywigs.co.uk ) so i might test one out somewhere where you cant see it ! think they last about a week and are waterproof.
Tracey - Good luck tomorrow with FEC 2
Amanda - Good luck Thursday with FEC 5 -i have TAC 3 on Friday so making the most of good days left should of had a good week last week too but got a bad cold and had to go in to test bloods but they were ok thank goodness so didn’t get too many good days this time!
Hi All
I read alot to begin with about diet and in the end decided to continue with dairy but have switched milk to organic, always get my eggs from local freeholder and buy organic cheese as prefer it’s taste. My bc was high on the oestrogen+ and there is alot about the hormones in dairy so that decided me to make the switch which for me was not a big one. Have always eaten lots of fruit and veg but still drinking the occasional coffee and the not so occasional glass of wine, but hey ho I still want to enjoy life!
Tracey and Amanda - hope next fec goes well,
Shell - same hopes for next tac,
LIF - will try to get a place on the LGFB session on the 7th, (meet you there:)) but as I have chemo on the 30th might not make it,
Hugs to all
Ali.

Hi Ali be great to meet you on 7th if you can make it! I have FEC 3 on 2nd Dec but will make it if I have to crawl there!!!
Would love to meet up even if you can’t get there then, where are you in relation to Exeter?
Thanks, for that. Good luck Shell and Amanda for this week. Had my FEC2 this morning, and have gone to bed, which I didn’t have to do last time.
SJ- sorry, did not mean to be alarmist - I just stopped drinking coffee, because with the first few days of my cycle, I was not able to drink any as I felt sick, and ended up having massive caffeine withdrawal headaches! Decided that I will stick to a couple of cups of tea, and that is it! Not read anything that has suggested we cut that out! There have to a few pleasures left in life!
On the dairy thread, I too am still having dairy- I eat healthily, lots of fresh fruit and veg, organic meat etc. It was just that some people seemed quite shocked that I was still eating dairy, which made me wonder if any definate links had been found. Think it will be more of a prob for my bones though, with an early menopause looming, if I try and give it up- thank you once again all, for lovely advice,
Tracey
Apologies if this is a repeat, I posted last night, and it seemed to disappear.
Hi Tracey
I found FEC2 was a hard one. Ended up ringing my bcn who said the chemo was zapping those bads cells so to rest if my body said so and let it get on with it. Helped me when I had zero energy to imagine the chemo running round my body zapping the c cells,
Hope resting in bed imagining this happening helps you,
Ali.

I thought it was just me. Had FEC2 last Thursday and ended up in hospital again on Friday for a couple of days due to sickness. I am hoping that it doesn’t get worse each time!
Hey Julie I’m so sorry you are having such a problem with the sickness! Have they prescribed Emend for you yet? If not I personally would refuse to have the next FEC without it as its really unfair for you to suffer like this!!!
Emend has made all the difference to me as I have had it for FEC 1 & 2 as I am violently sick from all types of anasthetic so just knew I would react badly to FEC. I get vague nausea and a woozy head but no sickness so can function like a human…which is really important as we have enough cr#p to put up with!
Big hug xx
