Giving up on the cold cap

Hi Tina

Dont give up on the Cold cap… I am using it and have third FEC tomorrow (not looking forward to that one)and on Saturday in Southampton there was a celebrity sun walk in aid of BC… and paxman coolers were there demonstrating the Cold cap and they said to me never give up on it as it helps re growth…

so perservere… I know its hard… and its hard for me to take my own advice…

Thanks Van,

your encouragement means a lot, I will keep going with it, having one of those days, chemo delayed for op for portacath and still dreading the “next round”. I am also much more tolerant of others than I am with myself!!

Might drop them a line to see if I can do anything to slow down the “shedding” before the next session.

Thank you again. Kind regards, Tina.xxx

Steph, dont think you need to wear cold cap when having cmf do you,i was told no hair loss with cmf, hope im right as just gone through 6 sessions with cold cap and was hoping never to see it again, although it was a god-send as i retained prob 50% of my hair

Tina - hang on in there with CC, I’ve lost a lot and it’s depressing picking hairs off clothes at the end of the day, but despite my bald patch, the hair loss isn’t too bad and I’m hoping it’ll help feel normal more quickly at the end of treatment (that’s the plan anyway).

I know I’ve been told that hair grows back on cmf, but my friend who’s just gone through the same chemo regime without the cap, had hair that started to grow on cmf but then fell out. She’s only just starting to grow it again and she’s just finished rads, so I’m very wary. I can’t risk losing what I’ve managed to hang on to.

Van - thanks for the links, I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to look up their website before.

Thank you Steph,

I have been following the advice about haircare on a leaflet I have been given by the hospital, I have only washed my hair once a week and let it air dry (usually I am a slave to my straighteners!!) I will try again and according to the chemo nurse, by the end of cycle 2 with the FEC if you still have about 50% of your hair you will keep that much. See if she is right!
Thanks for the encouragement, ladies! xxxTina

Hi Ladies,

I finished chemo at beginning of January had 6 FEC and had the cold cap with all of them.
At the time I said never again as towards the end I too was like friar Tuck and it was very very painful, but now a few months on ive had to have my hair cut really short as it had a all died the bits I kept. But my hair is no in a short style and you wouldnt know!! If i hadnt had the cold cap it would all be about 2 cms all over and be no mistaking the chemo look!!! If you can stick with it as once you start feeling better you become very impateitent and frustarted with the way you look.
It does grow back really quickly too,
Good luck to you all

Hi Ladies Can I come in here? I have had 3 x FEC now and had cold cap. The Onc was convinced that i would not keep my hair as it is very fine.I had the cold cap for about 1/2 hr before any chemo and then it was changed just before I had the epirubicin. I see the Onc before each chemo and after nos. 1&2 he said give it 7 days. Didn’t comment before 3rd. I only wash my hair about once every 10 days and was also a slave tp thickening/volumising potions etc. and steam styler etc but leave hair to dry on its own. Had some hair come out on the comb after shampooing and can see some thinning at temples but hair above covers that.So perhaps do not give up on the cold cap. Each one of is so different in how we respond to any of this blinking BC both physically and emotionally. But this site is so supportive and helpful. Not sure whether I will have taxetere or surgery next have MRI scan on Thurs and results on polling day ( so not the only one waiting for results)First 3 chemos did not make any difference to lump so maybe looking at 9 chemos in total. Not sure how Tax affects hair anyone know? LOL Jackie
