Going back to work while on Chemo

Hi

I am new to all this. I have had my operation to remove the breast, anc and reconstruction on the 10th January. My results were Ductical, size 26mm , Grade 3 and 2 lymph nodes involved and Oestrogen receptor Postive. My consultant has said that I can be put forward for the Tact2 Trail and I have my appointment with my Oncongolist tomorrow.

I would like to go back to work April/May has any one returned to work while being on chemo.

If so how are you coping with it?

Masny thanks

Hi there
I started chemio last year and was working but had to give up after 2 lots as I was just too tired and sick - but it isnt always the way so I would say give it a try and see how you get on - its worth it I recon
Good luck jANE

Hi,
I had chemo last April - Aug & managed to work all the way through. I had chemo on a friday & went back to work on the monday. Felt a little tired and spaced out at times, but for me it was ok.

Give it a go & see how you feel, there’s no sense in slogging yourself to death!! but just do what you feel comfortable with.

Best wishes

I worked through chemo too, taking off treatment days plus two or three other each cycle depending on how I felt. Everyone I know has worked through chemo. My daughters’ flute/piano teacher is currently having chemo & they haven’t missed a single lesson.

I worked all the way through all my treatment. I had my first operation on the Tuesday (WLE) and went back to work the following Monday. I then had to go back for lymph node clearance and had two weeks off as I had an infection.
Worked most of the time with chemo. I had it on Thursday and they give you steriods for three days which made me feel great then suddenly Sunday I would feel really tired by 4 p.m. and would go to bed sleep until I felt the energy coming back. Sometimes I needed the Monday off but a couple of treatment I worked through. I was always allowed to leave early if I felt tired which I did a couple of times. It all depends on the type of work you do. I sit at a desk all day so it wasn’t a problem. Just see how you feel. It made me feel I was a survivor not a victim by working.
It will be down to you so just wait and see. Don’t feel bad if you can’t manage it not everyone wants to work.
Hope it goes as easy for you as it was for me.
