going back to work

Hi any one

Iv not been able to work having had chemo/radio/surgery. Due to the nature of my job working with children because of picking up infections. I am soon to start on herceptin and wondering if any one can tell me if it is alright to work whilst having treatment, as i so much wish to return…

Thanks!

Hi

I had my first herceptin on Monday and am planning on going back to work end of May, early June.

I know a few ladies who have gone back to work on herceptin and I think that it’s fine to do so, of course that if you are feeling okay. I had surgery, chemo and rads and have been off work since last June. I couldn’t have worked through all of this like some ladies do - very brave of them.

I have been okay since having the herceptin, I have aches and pains from the taxotere anyway. I think the most thing with the herceptin is a bit fluey at first and then a constant runny nose !!

Love to you

Hi Nicolaann,
I’m on Herceptin and working. I work with children too, so didn’t work all through chemo, which took 8 months in the end. I went back in Jan and on Herceptin days, go to the hosp early for treatment (2 hours) then go on to work afterwards.
You’ll be fine, though of course there’s no pressure to get back to work either!
All the best, and well done for getting through the worst of it,
Jacquie x

I started Herceptin at the end of November and have been back at work since January with no problems.
good luck
Anne

I started Herceptin in January and I am hoping to go back to work beginning April all being well . I am lucky that I get my Herceptin at home so I can arrange it when Im off work as I only work part time. Good to hear that some of you are already back at work! I have been off almost a year and am worried about going back as I feel I have lost my confidence a bit. Did anyone else have the same problem and if so how did you get on when you went back?

I started herceptin May 06 alongside Tax chemo, went back to work 4 weeks post chemo and worked through rads and the rest of my herceptin sessions. It was absolutley fine, no side effects and was able to fit it around school drop off, drive the 50 mins journey each way and be back at school to pick my kids up.

Also went to Lanzarote for a week, New York for a weekend and went back to areobics while taking Herceptin. The only problem I had was with my veins, they got fed up being poked and pricked.

Hi

Thank you ladies for all your comments it as made me feel at ease knowing that it shouldnt interfere with work to much. I should be starting Herceptin in April. Well done to you ladies that have gone back to work.

Hi

I’m new to this but just wanted to say, I’ve just had 3rd Herceptin and went back to work on a phased return last week (2days a week). Big mistake, thought I could do it but by second day was very weepy and exhausted. Felt a complete idiot but boss was very understanding. Having another 2 weeks off now and going to try again after that. Don’t know if it’s the affect of rads (finished in mid Feb) or the Herceptin, or just everything!

Hi
Have been off work since October, work as manager in big supermarket chain, have been under no pressure at all to return, putting more on myself, mostly financial reasons, but know realistically I wont return until end July as have to go for radio from mid may. Putting more pressure on myself doesn’t help - but when I do go back it will be phased

Hi jorden

I started my 1st session of Herceptin last week all went well and finished my last treatment of radiotheropy today, which was a good thing no more travelling to the hospital and back every day being stuck in traffic because of road works.

I must say that i have felt rather tierd this week with the rads.

How was you with your first treatmentof Herceptin?. I have got my 2nd one in two weeks time.

Take it easy when you return to work, its not worth the pressure.
