GOING CHANGING FROM FULL TIME TO PART TIME EMPLOYMENT

I am due back at work on Monday to my full time position. For the first 2 months I will be working 4 days a week and then starting full time. I am thinking of asking for part time hours permanently, as I am 59 and after my illness feel that I just do not want to work full time anymore.

I know my employer is never keen on anyone working flexi hours or part time. Does anyone know my rights on this issue, eg. can my employer just say ‘no he will not allow me to work part time’ or do I have any options. I work for a small company that employs 8 people.

My employer has been very good to me throughout my illness, I have been on 2 months paid sick leave and they are allowing me to come back gradually into the workplace.

I would welcome any advice.

Regards.

Jean

Hi Jean,

Im in the same position as you i work for a small company and there is 6 of us, i was put in a dilemma recently having been working all through out my treatment, im half way through, im body is now physically and mentally tired and i really cant cope. Like you my boss had been good to me but at the moment im not sure whether i am able to take paid sick.
Alot of people mentioned getting in touch with Macmillian as they can help with all these issues and will be able to answer your questions. I hope this helps, good luck.
