got a bad knee
got a bad knee Hello everyone. Well my problem is…
I’ve got a bad knee. I’ve had it since January. Anyone else out there ‘got a bad knee’ ? I’ve been to the GP who says it’s not recurrence because I’d be jumping through the roof with the pain if it was recurrence. I’ve been to the physio who says it’ll get better on it’s own.
Anyway I don’t think it’s anything to do with Tamoxifen but just checking to see if anyone is also suffering with painful knee joints on Tamoxifen. I know Arimidex causes joint pains but apart from my knee I’ve not had any other joint pains.
sorry to go on about this.
I’m just feeling very depressed as I want to exercise but whatever I do (including swimming) just sets the pain off again. I feel like crying.

knee probs Hi Frances
Me again. I had a really bad knee problem shortly after I finished treatment - My right knee was quite badly swollen and I could barely weight bear, going up and down stairs would reduce me to tears - I put it down to the arimidex. I had slow release Diclofenac from the GP which helped and it did eventually subside - it now seems to have moved to my thumb!. Have you asked GP for some anti-infammatories? -it might help ease the pain a bit.

Hi Frances & Cherry
I have had a really bad knee since I was 16, had a knee replacement op just over a year ago. Since I started chemo I started having odd falls! I’m 42, so it is really annoying… I fall about once a month and it’s always that knee that makes it happen,
My knee is getting worse and the pain is so bad that I can’t move for minutes at a time when it’s bad, it’s started locking too (just briefly not enough to need anaesthetic to unlock it as I used too!) and agian I can’t move.
I only started Arimidex 3 weeks ago, but I know bone desity is a problem with them. I saw my GP last week about the knee and my general nutty mood that I’ve been in since the all clear, so I am getting an xray Friday to check I did not damage my new knee last time I fell in the snow! Gosh I hope not.
I agree with what you say cherry, NSAID’s have saved my life over the years - they helped immensly with the knee pain at one stage, once it got really bad I was on morphine (hence the new knee). So Frances ask your GP for something to ease the pain, you can buy Ibuprofen 400mg over the counter nowadays and they do help me, it’s better if your GP will prescribe them if you need lots like me tho - otherwise it gets expensive!
I hope your pain starts to subside soon though.

Hi Frances
I thought it was me being overly concerned - every ache or pain i get i convince myself the docs have got it wrong and its back again already!!
I’ve been on tamoxifen since last october and since starting was getting chronic leg cramps during the night. Spoke to onc who said to take it at night ( was taking it when i got up) and see if it made a difference. Well the leg cramps have virtually stopped i’m pleased to say but have now got such a painful joints. its mainly my left knee but my wrist and fingers in my left hand are also very sore. I find it very difficult to bend down and straighten up and climbing stairs is a nightmare. The fact that i’ve just gone back to work, (standing up for 6 hours at a time isn’t really helping either!!) My shoulder and ribs are still very tender, but gp says this will probably be a result of rads, but i have to mention it when i next see surgeon, which is in about 3 weeks.
I’m 34 but have absolutely no energy and i feel 134 at times.
After reading some other posts on here, i’ve requested nolvadex on my new prescription - hopefully some of these nasty side effects will lessen in time!!
Take care

thanks all. thanks for responding. God isn’t life a nightmare sometimes. Can you please let me know what Nolvadex is?. Is it a bone enriching drug?
I’m off to the Physio again to try to find a miracle cure. Guess I’ll have to start taking the Ibuprofen again.
Love Frances
NOLVADEX D Its still tamoxifen, but apparently its in its purest form. other brands have more added in bits which are supposed to make side effects worse. There is a few posts about it on here, and i asked my gp about it. She was fine about prescribing it.
My mum was given nolvadex when she was diagnosed back in 1984 and from what she can remember she was fine with it ( i no that side effects affect people differently, but i’m willing to give anything a try)
Hope you have some luck with the physio
Take care

me too!! I’ve also had to stop swimming as doing the breast stroke was affecting my right knee. My GP has told me that my right knee is typically arthritic (lucky me). Since I’ve stopped and rested it is much better.
However, I have taken up line-dancing and ballroom dancing and the knee is coping quite well at the moment.
I’ve been told not to do the breast-stroke as it twists the knee. This is the only stroke I can do. So maybe if you can do the front crawl you could do that and the knee wouldn’t be put under so much stress.
Hope your knee recovers quickly.
