Hi everyone, I’ve had two FEC so far and have had no problems at all. There was I thinking this is a doddle! Not so fast! I’ve come down with the most horrendous throat infection, no exaggeration to say I have to take a deep breath before I swallow, and I sound like Phyllis from Coronation Street (age giveaway!). Even Green and Black’s ice cream hurts! I went back to the hospital, had a blood test and was told my cell count is low - so I came home with antibiotics, mouthwash etc.
I fully expect that my planned chemo number 3 will be postponed next week. I was so looking forward to getting to the half way mark - but I’m sure this is only a minor set back. Has anyone had their chemo timetable disrupted? I know some people are really poorly and get hospitalised, so I’m grateful that this is probably a bug my kids have brought home from school. The date of chemo number 6 is so significant - I’ve been anticipating it like I did for my baby’s due date! But then again he was ten days late - so I know nothing’s set in stone!

Hi Tracey
I have just completed my FEC, last one today!!! I also came down with a really bad throat, chesty cough, temp etc and my neutrophils were 1.2 which is low. Not low enough to be hospitalised thank goodness. However, after one week of heavy duty antibiotics, mouthwash I was given the all clear today to complete my final cycle which is huge relief. I still have the sore throat, although no temp. and the Dr I saw today was not too concerned as my blood count is better which is amazing, I was convinced it was going to be postponed for a week. I hope your treatment isn’t postponed, but if it is don’t worry it will soon come round. I have my planning appointment next week for radiotherapy which I have been told is a walk in the park compared to the chemo.
Good luck with it all!

Hello Gail
Thanks for your response - it sounds a very similar experience - so I hope my recovery is as good as yours was.
More importantly congratulations on finishing your chemo. That is such a milestone. Just get that radiotherapy out of the way - and you’ll be up and running!!

Since posting this discussion I’ve read two threads from ladies who were hospitalised for a week with infections , one missing her son’s first birthday.
It put my sore throat very much in perspective , and whilst it was very painful for a few days, at least I’ve been able to put my children to bed every night. I was feeling sorry for myself, and feel that I may have looked self absorbed which I’m not at all usually. Wishing everyone who’s feeling under the weather better soon.
