Granocyte jabs and neutropenic

Hi

Just wondering if anyone else has been giving themselves granocyte jabs only to find out they’ve gone neutropenic anyway? I finished my jabs tuesday night then I got an infection today so they checked my bloods and I’m down at 0.69 already. I’m assuming it’s going to go lower too as generally I go down from here (day 10) then recover on about day 23 hence my chemo is normally delayed. I’ve had quite enough of being neutropenic now and still have 2 chemos left. Thinking about investing in that expensive honey to see if it helps.

Hi Em
I’m not sure about the difference between Granocyte and Neulasta, but if the Granocyte isn’t working, is it worth asking for Neulasta? I’ve had it for the past 3 treatments and bloods have been fine everytime.

I still find it odd that they test bloods as early as day 10. Surely you’re always gonna read low then. Mine get tested 3 days before the next chemo.

I have 2 (of 8) chemos to go and would hate it they were delayed. I just want it done now!

Take care

Hello,

They don’t normally check my bloods at this point, it’s just because I have an infected gland so my doc wanted them checked. Normally I have them done Fridy for chemo Monday. I’m just trying to do some research about the jabs but there’s not alot of info, as I wonder if they will maybe just make my bloods come up quicker than normal rather than stopping them going down in the first place which I thought would be the case.

I think I might ask for the Neulasta next time.

I had neutrophils of zero after my 4th chemo - after having had Neulasta. I got an infection and the situation wasn’t great, so that was the end of chemo for me. But at least having had the four, I was able to have Herceptin and I’m coming up to my 3 year anniversary now.
Good luck
Anne

Yet again there are so many different practices up and down the country!
I was neutropenic after my first chemo (0.5)so had daily injections for 3 days of Neulasta, was neutropenic again after chemo no 2, so now have the injections daily for 5 days after each chemo and that (touch wood) seems to be keeping them up.
Incidentally, I have weekly blood tests, deep joy!

Oh, and Em, I probably wouldnt buy the manuka honey in an attempt to boost your bloods - its lovely honey and tastes really nice in warm water (soothes your throat if your glands are up a bit), but probably isnt powerful enough to stop your bloods from dropping (thats only my view - it didnt work for me, but may for you)

I had Neulasta every each chemo cycle and was fine till the last one after which I developed neutropenia and was hospitalised.

I do agree re the honey. Don’t wlocal English (or Welsh or Scottish!) honey - it’s delicious and will do you just as much good.!

Re HONEY: Sorry about my previous posting - I deleted the middle of it which made it read as rubbish!

What I wanted to say was- don’t waste your money on expensive Manuka honey: support your local bee- keepers and buy local honey -----

Hi,

I decided to ditch the expensive honey idea as I thought it would do more for me if I bought a new top instead and accept that they may delay my chemo again. Lovely new top I got though.

I do prefer to buy local produce anyway so I will get some normal honey and enjoy it on my toast.
