Explaination about my question for hair colour… I want to use cold cap but my hair is coloured every 4 weeks so should I colour before the chemo and no more? Hope that makes sense… I am not thinking too straight here lately?

thanks

Hi
Just had first chemo (10days ago) On FEC & Taxotere.
was advised if I really needed to dye hair to use natural colourants! as for the green tea not sure…
Dont worry about asking the questions - we all need some answers and there are some great people on here that can help.

Hi thee,
Not sure about using hair colour with the cold cap. I was advised to treat hair very gently wash two days before chemo with a shampoo like Dove then leave for two days after chemo before washing - also pat dry and don’t use hairdryer. I seem to have kept about 60 per cent of my hair so far (on my head at least!) but it is very grey now and I’de love to dye it but would rather not risk it yet!
Not sure about the green tea - i found lime juice (roses) quite good.
cheers

Thanks for the info… I just happened upon the green tea and I have been drinking and enjoying it thinking it would help!

Hi Lee

I have been told not to colour my hair during chemo… fat chance though as I have lost about 90% of it despite using the cold cap. The wisps I have remaining are ginger which is weird as I always thought I had mid brown hair but that must have been because I’ve been colouring it for years and forgot what colour it actually is!

I haven’t heard about not drinking green tea and don’t want to give it up, I drink gallons of it!

Hi Lee,

It seems there are lots of things we normally consider good for us that some say we should be careful taking. I would say check with one of your doctors before taking.

As for hair dye told not to use any dye for six weeks after all treatments.

Hi Lee,

I am in week two & to tell you the truth I feel absolutely fine. The first 3 days after 1st chemo I only suffered from hot spots (cheeks flushed & tops of my arms)
then toward the end of the first week suffered with indegestion & heartburn. Was a little tired towards the end of the days but I put that down to 2 hyper kids (7 & 9).

I was not on any meds before chemo.
I was dx with invasive grade2/3 BC on the 18th July. for the first 3 dys after I did not eat or drink. I mostly slept and cried. We decided not to tell the kids until the day b4 my first chemo. It was so hard to try and be normal for them until that date! But I got through, I got a lot of advice and help, support from this site.
The only way I can described my emotions is a roller coaster. You climb slowly to the top on a good day they woooosh down to the bottom on a bad day then you know that you HAVE TOO climb up again!!!
At the moment I am fine i have no other side effects and I do not try and dwell on what will be! I am a 34yr old crochet addict know - keeps the mind busy. oh as well as building Ikea furniture (just moved house 3 months ago!!)
If there is anything I can answer I will try, but please remember that yes every one is different.

Hello Lee

I think the reason for not drinking green tea may be because it is supposed to contain lots of anti oxidants and some people say not to take anti oxidants during chemo and rads. My onc said it was OK to take any supplements but doctors differ on this. Probably best to check with your onc.
Take care and good luck with chemo

Blimey,

hope that green tea is ok, I have practically lived on the stuff since I started chemo in May!! In fact, I’m literally not long back from Whittards where I bought 3 more tins!!

Hair dye is a definate no-no as the chemicals can get deep into your scalp where the hair pores are open.

Thanks for the info girls.

Hi girls

I drank and still do, green tea all through chemo and radiotherapy.

I used the cold cap and it was really successful, I kept my hair very short and didn’t colour it at all. I probably only lost about 10% on my head, which was amazing. People said I would have silky smooth hair-free legs, but unfortunately the hair on my knees didn’t realise that and I looked like a mammoth at times.

As mentioned in some of the previous posts I washed my hair very very little, and used Simple shampoo and conditioner as baby shampoos which you would think would be very gentle can actually be harmful apparently. I think it actually did it good as it didn’t washing that much after a while. I patted it dry and only brushed it twice a day, very carefully. Drying with a hair dryer is also a big no no. Well it worked for me, I didn’t go out much so six months of gentle hair care in this way was worth it.

Boy do I appreciate a hairwash under fast flowing shower now though!!

Hope this helps, and one more thing, my hair is now glossier and thicker than ever

TAY X
