Growing cyst or something eles

Feel like I’m going crazy

In short, had a tiny lump on right breast lower inner 6.5years ago. Sent to breast clinic had no scans but they did do a needle aspiration biopsy and dignoised as a cyst.

Fast forward 6.5years now breastfeeding my baby is now 8months. I’ve noticed it’s got bigger and visible under skin nothing on surface. No pain. Im worried as went to gp who said they really should have done an ultrasound as could have missed something with just a needle aspiration.

I have an urgent appt on Saturday at breast clinic but worried sick. But also think surley there would be other symptoms by now unless it can stay dormant and progress at a later stage?

any advice or similar situations like this

Hello ebeb,

Thanks for posting.

It’s understandable to feel worried sick that the breast cyst you were diagnosed with 6 and a half years has grown especially if your GP said something could have been missed with just a fine needle aspiration.

From our breast cyst information, you will see that breast cysts can fluctuate in size around the time of a women’s period. This is due to hormone levels. Breast cysts can also change in size during pregnancy and breast feeding.

If this had been a symptom of breast cancer 6 and a half years ago, as you say you would have expected to have developed other symptoms by now.

It’s important to be sure though and a breast change needs to be assessed initially by a GP, as you have had done and then at the breast clinic if necessary. Although you have been before our information might be useful to help you prepare for your appointment on Saturday. You can take someone with you if you wish.
