Hi _jm,
Thanks for posting.
It sounds like it’s been a tough couple of weeks. It must have been frustrating not being able to have your biopsy completed on your first visit and to feel like you’re coordinating your own care.
MRI scans are usually reviewed by a multidisciplinary team at a meeting. The results of MRI scans can help give the team a clearer understanding of the breast tissue and any areas of concern.
As you haven’t had a biopsy confirming you have a breast cancer, the MRI will help guide the team to biopsy a slightly wider area than the original lump. The area that has shown up on the MRI is not necessarily a cause for concern, there could be many benign (non cancerous) reasons for the ‘tiny bits’ you mention.
It’s difficult when you feel like you are prompting the team or coordinating your care, especially at a time when you may be feeling anxious. It might be helpful to speak to your breast team. Sometimes treatment teams do not communicate information with patients immediately, and they wait until the next face to face clinic appointment when all results are available. You are entitled to be cc’d in on emails to your GP and can request that they keep you informed of any updates or changes in your care. You can also contact PALS if you need further support or would like to make a complaint.
