Sorry not been here but writting from hosptial bed as they got me in sooner had op late yesterday afternoon large local incision with sentinel node removal. No blue dye so I don’t wee blue lol not a bad thing. Now they told me sentinel node tested positive when they checked so removed that and also removed 2 or 3 suspect ones. When I asked what next would it be chemo he was no would be radiation theropy. Which surprise me. He didn’t take any more nodes than those that looked suspect as he said radiation would kill them. Just wondered if this is normal?
Hi Peanut, hope you’re recovering from your op ok. Some positive lymph nodes were found after my op and I’m now having chemo as well as radiotherapy xx
Everyone gets a tailored plan but if you have any concerns just speak to your breast care nurse.
Hi peanut57, I’m sorry to hear you’ve been thrown into some doubt. It’s worrying when plans change. As chaffinch has said, if you are concerned give your bc nurse a ring for further explaination, they may be able to arrange a meeting to go through it for you.
Hi Peanut - I had a mastectomy May 2016 and sentinel node had macro-met of cancer - I didn’t have chemo or radio, just hormones. Every one is different. Debbie xx
Thank you all, I am not sure whats going on with my mind, I had coped so well up until the point I went in for my operation now I am just an emotional wreck, i burst into tears for no real reason, I have been told by my Breast Care Nurse it is totally normal as I did at one point think I was losing my marbles, I got myself worked up thinking it all was same treatment for everyone but now understand each and every persons treatment is geared up for them and for them alone, no treatments are identical, which is where i was getting confused I think, added to that still loads of general anaesthetic in my system lol. I would like a break from this roller coaster ride even if just for a moment, but think I have a way to go on it just yet. Thank you for allowing me to have a wobble xxx
Your experience makes me feel better about what I’m going through now blueash. My tumour was 22mm with no node involvement but then HER2+ so was told chemo rads and Herceptin. You feel at this stage that you are poisoning yourself for nothing because the lump is gone with clear margins but then you remember the statistics say that you have a much stronger chance of it not coming back if you have the treatment. I’m hanging in there for my future life expectancy. They also look at your age size general health etc to decide on the best treatment. Cancer treatment is very well researched and funded do you are in safe hands.
You ladys are a inspiration you really are.
I am feeling much better now, back to normal (whatever that is lol) the pain is no where near as bad as i thought it would be, my wrist is the most painful where they put a canula into my main artuary to put me to sleep as my veins are naff, actual op site is really fine appart from odd shooting pain now and then, mind it is really pretty colours all over what is left lol.
Thank you all for your kind words and support, I have lots of good friends and family but when they called round, or turned up bearing gifts, i just stood there and started blubbering like a idiot, poor souls they just really didnt know what to say. Here you all get it, so that makes me not feel that idiot, also helps me so much to know all these strange feelings are “Normal” and to go with the flow so to speak.
Hope everyone is good today xxxx
You’ve all also been an inspiration to me especially when I feel most anxious having suffered depression in the past, I’m determined not to become depressed again with all this.
After op a few days ago starting to feel more like myself even managed to get a bra on today and my husbands washed my hair (what a palava!!).
Still feeling tired but a good excuse to have a rest in the afternoons. xx
Hi Peanut, I have also just undergone surgery. Lump an lymph nodes removed on 9th Oct. Thought I was doing well as just facing each stage as it came. Waiting for results from op to determine threatment. Went onto this site this morn for the first time as need to know it others felt the same as me after the op. Last few days I’ve been getting shooting pains in my breast an not getting any sleep. Have you had these pain’s? X

Sharon yes had those, they are slowly easing but still get the odd one, like someone stabbed me with a hot poker sometimes, it is getting better now though, scars have healed lovley just the very heavy feeling and the odd shooting pain left to go now, hopefully these will improve over the coming weeks. Hope you feel a bit better soon and you manage to get some rest. Helen xx
I had mine on the 3rd Oct, I was told to take dressings off after two days and that the steristrips should fall off on their own but if not by day 10 to take them off, then to massage aquius cream into the scars twice a day (I got mine from boots) I was told to shower/bath as normal but pat dry not rub.I did make an appt with my GP surgery just to get the wounds checked out after 5 days just to rest my own mind.
It could be everyone is also different on how told to manage their wounds so I would give your Breast Care nurse a ring as she will know what you had done and how it was done and will be able to advise you, they are very good and wont mind you ringing at all. You can also ring the nurses on here I have a few times and they have been fantastic.
I have to wait for my results I was told three weeks but not had appt yet, hate the waiting lol. One thing I have found which helped me a lot is that everyone is different, their treatments, their time scales, and their experiences. I used to panic until the lovely ladys on here showed me just how different it was for everyone. It will get better Sharon, it is still early days yet and it is major surgery when all is said and done. Everyone on here is amazing and will do all they can to help.
Take care and let us know how you get on with your results xx Helen xx
I had op on the 4th October and was told to make an appointment with the nurse at my Gp surgery to remove the dressing 10/12 days after op (due to go tomorrow). In the meantime I was told to leave it alone and not get it wet so have not been able to shower since!!
Seems different hospitals have different views concerning this. xx
Yes I think your right Rabbit. Hope your doing ok and healing up well. xxx
Worried yesterday abt care of wounds and then this morn got ph call from hosp saying surgeon wanted to see see tomorrow regarding Results! Was told to wait 2 weeks for this. Now I don’t know if this is good or bad being seen so quickly for results. Guess no sleep tonight AGAIN!!!
Sharon I spoke to my BCN this morning and my Dr’s having a meeting tomorrow about my results and she told me that they will phone me and ask me to go to the Clinic for results either end of week or early next week, it all depends when his clinic is running. I was thinking I would get an appt letter, but apparently our hospital rings they dont send a letter for results appt’s. It could just be the way they work with your hospital too and it happens your Dr’s clinic is tomorrow. I know it is a worrying time, I also have all sorts of stuff rolling over in my mind, I want to know the results but I dont if that makes any sense. All the very best with your results tomorrow Sharon will be thinking of you, hope you get some sleep tonight. xxxx
Helen I haven’t spoke to BCN cos I didnt want to sound silly. You do worry abt all sorts an I have to say since I came across this site yesterday a lot of my questions have been answered by people like yourself going through the same worries an emotions. Everyone at home is telling me not to worry abt tomorrow but easier said than done. I will be thinking abt you as well an hope you don’t have too long to wait for yr appointment. Take care xxx
