Had third chemo and feeling rough

Hi All
I had my third (AC) chemo session on Wednesday - to be followed by 1 last AC then 4 x Taxotere. I have felt very poorly - dizzy, headachey, extremely nauseous and sick three times on the Wednesday evening. Yesterday and today I have just felt nauseous and ‘grotty’. Am now dreading my next chemo session, as have felt worse after each one. Any tips from anyone? Have you had a similar experience? On a positive note - the consultant thinks that the tumour has started shrinking - this will be confirmed by an ultrasound, to be done before my next chemo. Fingers crossed…!

HI Sam

You may be better with the Taxotere, but it sounds like if you have antoher AC to go through they really, really need to get a grip on that nausea. You’re going to have push for better anti-emetics, by the sound of things. Another possibility - could have the chemo as an in-patient, as vomiting and nausea can be better controlled if you have an IV in?

Hi Sam,

sorry to hear you’re feeling poorly. If its any consolation at all, just about everyone on here seems to have had a similar experience when it came to chemo No3. And it doesn’t seem to matter what chemo you’re on, No3 seems to be the worst.

I am on E-CMF and had an awful time after my 3rd epi, despite the other previous 2 being relatively trouble free! I scoured this and the bc pals site and it seemed I was not alone. A lot of people commented that their nurses had even said that many people struggle with No3!

It took me the best part of 8 days to ‘get over’ epi No3, but I’m pleased to say that No4 was a whole lot easier, a million times better in fact!! I was like a completely different person, right from day 1!

I’ve defo got my fingers crossed for you that your tumour is shrinking, be sure to let us know! I really hope you start recovering from chemo 3 very soon and start feeling more ‘normal’,

Take care,

Kelly

hi Princees sorry to hear you have struggled with number 3 it was number 2 I struggled with for nearly 2 weeks I spent most of my 2 weeks upstairs. I felt so ill I was dreading the next one but number 3 was great for me so I think we are all different I do hope you start to feel better as that feeling is terrible you cant describe it to anyone. I do still feel a bit tired even though I have finished chemo I think I expected to much I thought I would be back to my old life style straight away but I had to go and lie down yesterday as was really shattered so I dont expect to be going back to work as soon as I thought Anyway You Take Care hope you feel better over the weekend Love Linda xxxx

hello,
sorry you feel so awful: I really do sympathise with you. Like princess18 I had a rougher 3rd chemo though mine was FEC, a couple of infections, oral thrush, very tired and just not feeling like myself. The first 2 were much easier, I have also heard that no. 3 is bad for a lot of people, and it doesnt mean no. 4 will be even worse.
I have first of 3 Taxotere on Wednesday (so my second 3rd chemo perhaps!) which is terrifying me, people keep saying if okay on FEC then you could have a bad time on Taxotere and vice versa! But what is a bad time on FEC? I keep saying Ive been lucky on FEC but people around me think its been hard! So, I think the mind can be useful too! I would also say that your sickness needs sorting out, they tell us they can do it, so keep on at them to find a solution to it!
Take care and hope you feel better soon,
Pauline

Thank you so much for your messages - it’s nice to know that I’m not alone. Went back to work for first time in 4 weeks today (am off for chemo weeks and had 2 weeks hols), so am feeling shattered tonight. Apart from that I am feeling much better than I did - like you say you really cannot descrive how awful you feel! Best wishes to you all.

Hi Sam

I have just had No. 4 FEC and have been out today (4 days after chemo). No. 3 knocked me out for a but 8 or 9 days - it was definitely worse than this one. Apologies to all those who are approaching No. 3…

Can’t believe I managed a food shop so soon after chemo - this has been totally beyond me to date.

Good luck
Heather

weird
It was my second fec that I had the worse time with
My third one was the best ever -no sickness or anything. The worse thing i got was a cold sore and achy legs
Got Taxotere coming up next week so have to start the learning curve all over again!
Jools

Hi Jools and anyone else with Taxotere still to come!,

I have my first Taxotere today so will let you know how I get on! Had 3 FECs so far but as I said earlier, the third was my worse! Could be getting worse though! - There is another thread re Taxotere with a couple of women who had their first last Friday, its interesting to see how they are.

Take care,
Pauline

Good luck Pauline. I am on the the same combo as you. Just had first FEC - then moving to TAX.Let us know how you get on. I was told I am one of the first cases in Norwich to do it this way…fingers crossed it’s a good one!!!

Take care
