Hi all,
Was diagnosed with intermediate widespread DCIS on 9th August. Went in yesterday for wire insertion and WLE. Feel ok today not too painful. The doctor said they think they got it all, margins were a bit close to the edge??? and they had to take more tisse than they wanted to. All so confusing this talk. I have to wait 2 weeks for my appointment with my consultant.
Does this sound good or what could be next on this unknown journey? Sorry, feeling a little sorry for myself today.
Lots of love and hugs to you all.
Faz
Hi Faz, don’t apologise, you are entitled to be feeling how you do! When you go back for your appt in 2 weeks they will have a clearer picture of your treatment plan - they should tell you the grade of the tumor and whether you will need chemo and or radiotherapy. Everyone is different so no point in trying to 2nd guess them. Personally, following my WLE (grade 3 1.7mm) I had 6 lots of chemo - I was due to have rads but secondaries were found in my bones so my Oncologist is holding fire on the rads because,if there is a lot of deterioration they can blast the bones with radiation. It will all seem very scary at the moment but you do get used to it all - the ladies on this site are a wealth of information and great great support, so you just ask away as you go along. I wish you lots of luck for positive results xx take care xx Debbie
Thanks Debonair7. Really appreciate your comment, it is all so overwhelming and confusing.
Take care

Hi Faz, it is all so much to take in isnt it? But you will
gain an in depth knowledge before long. Re the margins, I think they like to gain a good clear margin of 10mm (I think)from the cancer. They then get this tested in the lab whilst you are on the operating table.
Your consultant, BC nurse etc… will then meet up and discuss the best form of treatment for you as there are so many different types of breast cancer and treatments & medication.
I had a quadrantdectomy last Aug, Chemo x 6 and rads in Feb of this yr. I’m over a year down the line now & I can promise you life can be really good again. ![]()
If you have any more questions please fire away. Remember we were all in your position once and there were a lot of lovely women who helped & supported us.
Wishing you the very best of luck with your results.
Take good care, love to all. X
Hi I had to wait 2 weeks for results,I think this is quite normal. They will tell you if they had good margins and they may suggest radiotherapy and whether the DCIS was hormonal or not ie oestrogen positive or negative and may suggest tamoxifen if its positive. If it’s DCIS that you have then that is a good thing(not sure good is the right word) as it hasn’t developed the ability to spread.
best wishes and good luck with your results Mel xx
