Hair dye

My question is: “When can I dye my hair?” My “lego” hair style would look so much more authentic if it weren’t so grey! There is so much conflicting information out there… wait 6 months… only use semi- permanent vegetable dyes… others say… just use your usual colour as soon as you get hair. Oh… what to do!!!
I would appreciate hearing your experiences.
Thanks

hi elsbeth,

i had the same problem as you, i could cope with being bald better than being grey. i finished chemo last june, my hair started to grow back properly in september(i shaved it while it was patchy) and i dyed it in oct. i asked my breast care nurse when i could, for the same reason as you and she said i could straight away. i figured she was with people like me every day and knew better than me. i went directly from the hosp to the chemist and that night i was a very happy blonde again!!

hope it works out for you,

Oh yes… although I think I’ve gone a shade too dark as I really do look like a lego man now!!! Next step… going wigless!

my hair was a darker colour than it used to be after i dyed it, if that makes sense? i thought it meant my hair, that wasn’t grey had come back darker…

enjoy the freedom of going wig free,

my hair is now curly… having been dead straight all my life… see what you have to look forward to?

love

Hi Lenny - I’ve had curly hair all my life which I quite liked. Now however, I’m wondering how I’m going to get past this “brillo / wire wool” stage. I can feel that my wig is starting to feel less comfortable as my hair starts to get longer but am not yet brave enough to go out without it at least until it has some sort of style at least… how vain!!

Don’t fight the curl girl!!

Good to know you can dye your hair afterwards.
Would love to know your views on fake tans a week before chemo?(He She tan possibly) Would’nt normally but going to a special occasion and dont want to be the only milk bottle there plus would be nice to get dressed up for last time before they jail me!

Hi Rosiefff!

Personally I would have it done but it’s probably best to run it past your BCN just in case. Like you say… nice to get dressed up once more before the fun begins!

Good luck!

Txs Elsbeth! Will bump this up and see if any beauticians in the house??

Oh… good idea! If there are any… here’s another question… are we ok to have false nails!!!

Yipee!!! love this tread, makes us feel normal talking about girlie things again instead of medicines from the Wicked Witch of the West!

Hi ladies, just picked up on this thread and having just finished chemo last week am beginning to think about normal things again! I too have been wondering about hair, but as I successfully used the cold cap have been told to be careful for next 6-8 weeks as hair still fragile. However was thinking about using tanning body lotions to get rid of the chemo yellow colour and have been successfully using gel nails all through!
I think you have to do whatever it takes to make you feel normal again!
love,
Lyn x

i think nails and fake tan are ok and if you want to grow your nails there is some advice on another thread, i’ll bump it up so you can read it… don’t know if it works but i’m trying it, so important not to forget that we are and were girls before this desease invaded our bodies!!

Just discovered this thread as was about post to question re hairdye! Does anyone know if you can get paraben free hairdye? Gone all sort of organic since diagnoses as highly oestrogen positive! It’s costimg me a fortune but am so paranoid now, I’m scared to use anything with parabens in. Never had to dye my hair before as was luckly with no grey, wot a shocker now though that’s coming back white, I’m far too you to be a silver fox!
