hair dye
hair dye I have now finished all my treatments and have had my first year
check up. which was very positive. I feel now that i can start to try
and get on with my life.
After hair loss my hair has now grown back but is very grey where
once it was light blonde.vanity calls so tried a vegetable dye but
this appears to have had no effect on my hair, can anyone advise on
a non toxic product, my breastcare nurses stressed that a product
without peroxide would be preferable.HELP
THANKS SO MUCH GILL
hello Gill
i didnt have chemo but always use a wah in wash out one as it keeps my hair in nice condition and just gives sutble highlights
this may be the way to go at first , or you could treat your self and visit a good hairdresser they would be able to help you for your first one

Organic Colour Not sure just how “natural” these hair products are but they sell them at my local health shop. I think they are paraben free. Check out the website

Kylies dyed hers Have you noticed how Kylie
s hair grew back grey but now looks wonderfully blonde and highlighted I was looking forward to asking my hairdresser for a Kylie. Have any of you had straight hair growing back wavy or curly. I hope mine does. Do you think a light perm would be possible or are you being advised against chemical products.
Frances
kylies colour hello francis
Was interested in your comments, the reason i am reluctant to
use products with chemicals in is on the advice of my breast care
nurse, not sure if it is because of the chemo or the fact that
the hair that comes back is babyfine and chemicals may damage
it, it may be worth asking your breast care nurse concerning a
perm i would be interested to hear their advices. as my hairis now
at the “cant do anything with it” stage , before hair loss my hair
was poker straight and needed all the help it could get. It is now
wavy and very grey would like to add colour so that i can look like
the old me/

Hi Gill Hi, im a hairdresser, mum stopped chemo in October and rads in November (and is doing fine) she has been putting coloured mousse on as i have been reluctant to put chemicals on it, but now all the ‘fuzzy’ stuff is gone we are thinking about starting it up again. What i will say though is, even if you were fine with hair dyes before all of this PLEASE do a skin test first either at a salon or if you do it at home, this means mixing a small amount of hair dye up and putting it either on the inside of your elbow or behind your ear (most sensitive parts of body) for 24 hrs to see if there is a reaction, if you have high lights/lowlights not such a problem as it doesnt come into contact with yoyur scalp, any ‘proffessional’(cant spell!!) hairdresser will do this automatically, it just makes sure that you have not become allergic to the dye as you havent used it for a while and its better to be safe than sorry. Good luck

hair dyes i was told to use vegetable based dyes - i think you can get them from Lush on the high street. i’m going to get one this weekend as my 6 months are now up. i’ll let you know if my hair turns orange!

I think I’ve found a solution! I two had chemo lost my hair and 3 months after have a lovely head of grey short hair.
I tried Henna bought from Lush on the high street, put it on for 4 hours and it made no difference. Then a friend suggested I go to a Aveda salon.
I booked an appointment and had a patch test (on the underside of my arm) and I booked in to have my hair dyed brown on Saturday. All the dyes are 97% organic, you can’t buy them because of the mixed and are only available at the salons.
If you go on to: www.aveda.co.uk
Click on locations and it will show you where your nearest salon is. Based in Northumberland mine is Savannah:
savannah-salonspa.com/
After losing my hair and it taking an age to come in, I wanted to make sure when I dyed it it would be alright. I will let you know after Saturday! The range of colurs they have is fab!
another alternative is Avea (a different company that sounds the same!
Log on to: avea.co.uk/aveashop/shampoo/colour.htm
They sell 100% organic dyes.
Good luck and happy dying. Will keep you posted.

chemo hair my hair came back white and wild, just three months after my chemo ended my consultant said i could dye it.i went blonde ,although previously dark and havn’t had any problems with it breaking or falling out.i suppose it depends on what type of hair you have. mines always been thick and strong, but must admit it was never as wild as it is now!
Getting your hair dyed Hi
My hair grew back grey after my chemo finished in Feb 2004. I left it because I was afraid to dye it just incase it went wrong! Anyway I took the plunge last Wednesday and went to an Aveda salon and got it done. They were brillient, did a patch test and spent ages with me deciding what colour and wether it should be perminent or semi. The result is fanstastic I was really pleased. Everyone has said it has taken years off me!! A word of caution - it was not cheap but I’m worth it!!
Hope this helps

Hair Dye Reading everyone else’s post I realise I might have been a bit rash but 2 weeks after my last chemo I dyed my hair with a semi permanent. I used the cold cap and still had a covering of hair, alot thinner than it was but covering my head ok. I felt so much better once my hair was brown again.
It makes you feel so much better and a step back to being “normal” so I’d advise anyone to do it, but maybe be a bit more sensible than me and do an allergy test.

To dye or not to Dye !! I must confess that as soon as I has 1/2 inch of hair I went to the hairdressers and has a permanent dye and boy did I feel good. I have always had very strong hair and it came back very similar but more curly, It was very like Kylies to start with though unfortunately I did not have the pixie features that make it look sweet on her.
I would , as others have recommended , go to a good hairdresser who will assess the condition of your hair and give you the best advice.
I do not believe there is any medical reason why you should wait before using a hair dye.
good luck on whatever you decide

Hair Colour You can get Daniel Field hair colour at Sainsbury’s £6.99.
honestycosmetics.co.uk/daniel_field_hairdressing_colour.shtml
I don’t know how organic it really is, but it doesn’t have peroxide or ammonia.
It can be used as semi-permanent or permanent, depending on how dry your hair is when applied. I don’t know how it works with post chemo hair - usual thing - try a strand test and see if the result’s OK
My hair dye worked! I said I would keep you posted! I now have a lovely head of red brown hair after visting a Aveda Salon on Saturday. Will update my profile with a photo later today for you all to view for yourself!
Solution is Aveda salon definitely. Very expensive mind. My little colour cost £52, but worth it to feel normal again.

You can go any colour you want! Reply to rosamarie.
at aveda you can go any colour from blonde to black and its all natural. I had really dark grey hair and they said I could go blonde if I wanted to not a problem. Must say I was very tempted!

hello to everyone on site. This is my 1st posting as ive only arrived at the site last week, i have enjoyed reading all the tips re hair colour, i lost my hair in dec 3wks after my 1st chemo session, it was long and dark , like catherine zeta jones but dead straight, it was a nitemare the day it started to fall out, i then went straight to the hairdresser who shaved it off, i was in tears and the hairdresser’s hands were shaking, anyway its comin back but like everyone’s its grey and white, why does the hair on the parts of ur body come back as black as before but the hair u see? Ive been reading about a few veg colours and have been so tempted to do mine. Its been 3mnths since chemo and month since radio. My wig gets on my nerves so ive hardly worn it. im in scotland and i cant come across any aveda salons im sure there must be but its not showing up on web, so i wondered about the other company AVEA i think its called? The texture of my hairs changed from soft to wiry yuk! Ive been rubbing almond oil into scalp since bald and i still do every eve b4 bed, also after washing in the morning i use vitapoint thru it, what a difference! Another conditioner i find gr8t is inecto’s coconut oil all these products have made a vast difference to the texture, hope this helps anyone. caroline. x
