I know you aren’t supposed to dye hair during chemo…if you have any. I am day 16 post 1st FEC and so far still have hair although roots very grey. Am tempted to put a natural hair dye ie Naturtint from Holland and Barrett on it but am worried will tempt fate and just cause it to all fall out…which I know it might do in a few days time anyway so is it worth it…
Any thoughts or advice?
Janey I didn’t have FEC, but personally if its going to fall out i would think why not if it makes you feel better. I don’t think dye will make it fall out quicker ( thats my opinion not medical fact) i dyed mine after chemo when it started to re grow and it didn’t seem to do any damage
I had FEC last year, and started to lose my hair rapidly after day 10, so yours is doing well! I hope you may find the following comments of help in arriving at your decision.
My understanding is that they advise us to steer clear of dyes is because our skin becomes so much more sensitive than usual as a result of the chemo, so you could get a scalp reaction even if you don’t normally have problems. I was told to avoid any skin products with perfumes in throughout the chemo process, for example. This was also borne out when I attended a ‘Look Good, Feel Better’ workshop*, in that I noticed all the skin care items supplied in the ‘goody bag’ were of the hypo-allergenic type.
Another hint - the hair loss patterns can vary a lot between individuals, so you might not have this one to deal with, but you might need to stock up on tissues, pref in every room in the house…because if the little hairs up your nose go walkabout, as mine did, you get no flippin’ notice when your nose starts to run - yuk! But they did come back, along with all the rest, so it was just another of the temporary hassles associated with this kind of treatment.
Hope this helps, and if you want to pick my brains any further then feel free. Are you having Tax next, or one of the others?
Love and hugs

(*BTW, if you have these workshops available in your area, I would strongly suggest putting your name down ASAP as they get booked up quickly - and as well as the fantastic goody bag, I learnt how to put very convincing eyebrows back on, which was invaluable, as it gave a tremendous boost to my self-image).
Thanks for the comments, am having FEC x 3 then 3 Tax after. Will see what hair sit rep is after weekend, if any and will try and find out about the workshops
