Hello!
I’m about to start six cycles of FEC-T on August 9th. I’m going to give the cold cap a go but have a wedding to go to on the 26th of August and want to get a wig just in case.
Does anyone know of a good supplier in the London area? (preferably central).
I know this sounds very vain but I want to feel as human as possible throughout my treatment and wondered if anyone had tried getting semi-permanent lashes when theirs fell out? I saw an article in Grazia about a woman who’d had ovarian cancer and she got them done when she lost her lashes.
Sorry to sound incredibly vain, I just think the better I feel I look the more positive I’ll remain!
Many thanks xx
Hi Rosie
Sorry, I can’t help re sourcing the lashes, but just wanted to say you’re not hte only one worrying about your lashes! I had my first treatment last thursday and am waiting for the hair to start dropping out. I’ve bought some stick-on false lashes, as the idea of losing these seems to be bothering me more than losing the hair on my head!
I think we’re normal, being vain about going bald and looking like rabbits It’s not really a physcial state to embrace. There’s something about ‘looking’ like a cancer patient to everyone out there that’s unnerving.
If you come across any good sources of lashes, let me know. Good luck with your treatment. xxxx Jane
Hi Rosie i was like ou and the hair thing and lashes and brows was a huge thing to me i panicked and sent got some fine short eyelashes from maybelline at the ready but up to now havent needed them as ive still got my lashes and brows just hope they stay put now for 1 more treatment i also got a blonde eyebrow pencil and its exactly the same colour as my brows just in case but as yet not used that either . so hopefully you might be the same . i also have a wedding to go to on wednesday and have my hat and wig at the ready i went to Hothair they do the nhs vouchers if you google them they might have a branch in your area . i do recommend that you get a wig with the mesh realistic scalp they will advise you its very cool not itchy and can part anyway and you can see your own scalp through so its very realistic both my daughter and hubby didnt know it was my wig because i went while i had my own hair and she colour matched it and styled it the same as mine ( if not better ) and think no hat hair at the wedding , i wear mine all the time i didnt buy any scalves just a little white turbie towel for a morning till i get dressed and it just looks like ive come out the shower like you i didnt want anyone to know or see me " look like a cancer patient" and stare i just wanted to look like normal me , hope this helps xx take care Juliexx P.S my profile pic is me in my wig after i had ben to LGFB session so all my slap on ha ha xx

I agree with Julie, getting a mesh / lace wig will make the world of difference… I am now on wig number 7 (see photo), its been trial and error, but getting there eventually ( I made the mistake of buying 4 from the internet that all looked lovely on very glamorous ladies - was a completely different thing on my head)
Re eyelashes, I am half way through and have managed to hang onto them, but have the falsies at the ready.
Only other piece of advice is to take someone wig shopping with you.
Best wishes
Marguerite
There is a lot of information on the my new hair by Trevor sorbie website! Worth looking into. My lashes/brows have gone, had my last Chemo nearly three weeks ago, and there is some fuzz coming up now, I used the cold cap but it didn’t work, my hair still went. Most people haven’t noticed my lack of lashes, I use a soft eyeliner right in the line and use a soft sponge to softenen and some dark eye shadow around for definition. The lashes have not started regrowth yet. Good luck. (bought my wig from hairware, they are local to me but supply wigs to salons all over the uk, I took a friend, we had a bit of a giggle and I chose a long blonde wig, I was dark brown below shoulder length before)
Hello! Thanks so much for all your wig tips. I dug out the Grazia article on eyelashes. Although I’ve still not found anyone who does semi permenant eye lashes when you have no eyelashes left, there is this recommendation in the magazine for people whose eyelashes aren’t growing back quickly. The woman in the article said her lashes were 100% thicker after three months and looked better than before she started chemo.
Good luck everyone!
Hi
We’ve been asked to clarify that the product used by the Grazia journalist was MyLash, as you can see here mylash.org/about/press/grazia-magazine/
