Hi my name is Pam. Not sure if this is the right spot for this. Started chemo 21st March and gone a lot better than i thought it would. Hair really coming out now by the handful. Just wondering do i wait till its almost gone or just be brave and get it shaved off now.
Hi Pam
I started Chemo at the end of June 2011 and found my hair started to fall out about a week before my second chemo. For me, I felt better shaving it all off as I felt in control and it stopped my head feeling sore. I remember going out in my little car with the roof down and wondering if I would have any hair left by the time I got to where I was going.
Silly thing but I kept all my hair in a bag - still have it! Not sure why - just know I am not ready for parting with it.
Hi
It’s four years since my chemo but I remember the hair loss well. Once it started falling I went to choose a wig with my daughter, and we had a good laugh.
I did shave it off once it started dropping and then started wearing the wig. Some people are comfortable just wearing scarves but I never was. It’s up to the individual.
Good luck to you,
Mal
Made my mind up phoned hairdresser and she will be coming wed morning. Then will be going for 2nd lot of chemo in the afternoon. Will be quite a day. Not sorted out wig yet but will be going with my son who is 20 with a great sense of humor and a friend. Have ordered a turban and a couple of scarves which are already tied so they should be good i hope!

Hi Pam,
Stared chemo on 21st Dcember and hair startedv to fall out 14 days later.
My friend who is a hairdresser came round on day 15 to trim my wig and we just went for it, cut then shaved it off.
It actually felt fine, quite liberating, as if I was facing the next stage head on. I had been dreading it, and once done, there seemed less to dread.
Good luck

Mine hung on through the first two FEC, and then decided to depart. As it was quite long, I cut it short, and then cropped it to the longest setting on our clippers, and then when that started to come out, it was cropped to the shortest setting, and there it stayed. I never lost it all for some strange reason, and now, having just had TAX2 I can see new growth.
Strangely I feel pretty good about it, I will never have long hair again, but probably won’t have it quite as short as this. I don’t like wearing my wig, and main,y wear Buffs which are so comfy and can be used after this is all over.
Lol ST, I have my hair in a fancy box, what on earth are we saving it for? I tell myself it’s so I can compare the colour and texture when my hair returns fully, but am I kidding myself?
I guess the answer is do it when you feel comfortable about doing it, I found it quite liberating taking control, and seeing it plastered across my hubby’s are a la bad comb over following an emotional sobbing session one morning was so upsetting. And it looked gross too.

Here here to buffs and snoods. Trespass has cheaper ones, but Buff snoods are lovely. Wear them far more than my wig.

Mine started falling out two weeks after first 'EC. Perversely I wanted to ‘see’ how it is to loose the hair. Got old quite quickly as hair was everywhere so had it shaved to number 4. That wasn’t a success either, 'cose you can still see 4 mm hair in your food. Shaved it off then.
At the beginning wore a wig but it just does not feel quite right so moved on to Buffs. I feel OK in my buffs.
Don’t know what you should do - whatever is less traumatic for you.
Hair today and gone tomorrow? Do yourself a favour and be in control - get rid of your hair now! Far less traumatic than having it fall out all by itself, and far less mess too. I quite liked seeing a Sinead o’Connor looking back at me in the mirror - much better than seeing ‘Lizzie Annie’ as my reflection!
I went for a wig in public, but hats indoors. My hair is about 2 inches in length now 6 months post chemo and soooooooo soft to the touch so I just put some hair putty on it to spike it as it is too short to style just yet.
Good luck
