hair loss

Hi, this is my first time on here, I was diagnosed with breast cancer just before easter, I have had a mastectomy with an expander for reconstruction and have started chemo. on the 20th May, upto now my hair seems to be ok but I wondered when other peoples hair began to fall out?

Hi there

Mine went about two weeks after the first FEC - and was gone before the second! Other girls in my chemo unit were the same. Eyelashes and eyebrows took longer to go but came back quicker.

Good luck my love

OK, we need good news… When does it start growing again… or when can we hope that it starts growing again?

Lisa XX

Good news? Mine started growing after the taxotere had finished. Body hair , eyebrows and eyelashes first. Finished tax at the end of October last year and had my first haircut and uncovered outing last Thursday! Other great news is that leg and underarm hair still seems to grow very much more slowly, as does the dreaded facial stuff.

It feels like ages but we get there in the end!

Hi Dilys
From this side of chemo 8 months after chemo finished, is a year down the line!
Oh, I do hope I find a good wig!

Lisa

My FEC finished mid February 07 and I went out commando on the 27th April 07, for my son’s 18th Birthday meal. Never wore a hat again after that, although it was very short it looked good.

Now have around 7 inch of lovely curls.

Best wishes to all.

Oh - that is good!
7 inches of curls in 16 months! If I do the maths correctly, thats about half an inch a month… mmmmm, not bad!
So was it about an inch long for the unveiling on your sons birthday?
I would like curls too!

My hair is very straight!

Yes it started to come back straight away, and when I look back at the photos, it was very short and not curly at that time, it wasn’t long enough, but it still looked good.

It is growing around Half an inch a month. It was curly before, but is even more now, which makes it easier to look after, I just scrunch some mousse through after washing and point the dryer at it and it looks great.

It was almost to my waist before, so I am quite impatient with it even so.

The thing that gets me is when people keep saying how quickly it has grown back, well it doesn’t feel quick when you have to start from nothing, and I tell them. I think I’m turning into a grumpy old woman!

I hope you get your curls, although it must be strange coping with them after always having straight hair.

I used to long for straight hair when I was growing up, but wouldn’t change it now.

Had my first FEC 21st May, was thinking it was holding out good as its quite short anyhow and tad longer on one side - this am no movement then tugged at the longer side and it came away in my hand - just been for it cut , bowt 2 inches all over, im used to it short but can see it thinning at side, trying not to tug as its coming out - boo hoo!!

finished chemo mid march - now have about 1cm all over head

Hi, my first time on forum. I had my last chemo (taxotere) on 3 Oct 2007. My hair has grown back (grey and curly - when before it was straight) and the sides are lovely and thick but the top and crown is very thin. It looks like a very old lady’s where the scalp shows through. Anybody have any ideas on how to make it grow thicker or am I expecting too much too soon, but it is now nine months since my last chemo!!

Hey Lisa (Ruby1966)

What have I missed - last i heard you were looking for plastic surgeons - are you having chemo now???

I am my third cycle of xeloda and my hair growing back very quickly. Once epi was over the hair has made a reappearance. I hope your hair comes back as quickly as mine has.

Hi Rachy

Great news. Well done you. So pleased about your hair.

Much love

HI Amandaj
I have always been lucky and had thick hair, and it is growing back the same, however it is growing unevenly so every few weeks my hubby cuts it with his clippers every time we see strsy hairs to encourage it along
