Hi all,
I finished my chemo in May and my hair has just started to grow. I have been advised to use a PH balance shampoo but any ideas which one and it doesn’t state PH on the bottle anymore?
quite honestly I’d just buy what you like, but if you can afford it get a good quality one like Aveda or the Kerastase professional range. They have less detergent so don’t strip hair down. Waitrose also do a good paraben-free one by Jason which is about £8. Hair tends to grow back thicker and stronger after chemo which is one of the few advantages!
Thank you for your comment i have now got some Ph balance shampoo and how wonderful does it feel to finally wash my hair with shampoo after using aqueous cream for so long all it has to do now is keep growing.
Hi there, I was advised by a hairdresser who has donkey’s years experience in supporting people during hair loss and regrowth. He said ‘Simple’ is good, either that or a babies/children’s formula. I also used E45 shampoo (smells evil!) for a while. Six months post chemo I have lush, if still very short, hair - hope you are as fortunate.
Hi RevCat, thanks for your comments, I dont know why I didn’t contact my hairdresser maybe because its been so long since I have been to see her but i have got some Pantene Pro V nature fusion moisture balance which is PH balanced. When i went to Headstrong at the beginning of my chemo they advised me against using baby shampoo and they were the one’s that told me to use ph balanced shampoo, but thank you for your help and advise. My hair is growing quite quickly now and seems so much thicker than before just looks a little grey which i am not too keen on but its better than being bold.
I was advised not to use baby shampoo. I bought Philip Kinsey no add shampoo and conditioner. It was a bit expensive but you don’t need much. I used the cold cap and kept about 70% of my hair washing it every 7-10 days. I had it cut quite short a couple of weeks after chemo ended as although I had kept most of my hair it did look straggly. It grew back very well and 18 months on I still love my new short hair cut.
A few years ago, a young lady I knew dyed her hair navy for fun at the weekend, thinking it would wash out (cause her school wouldn’t let them attend with dyed hair). It didn’t. Monday she washed it 21 times, with every shampoo she could get her hands on… the one that brought the dye out best? Baby shampoo!!! Can’t be as “gentle” as they’d like us to think!
