HAIR.

Morning ladies
Ive not long had my last chemo & am very excited about the thought of having my hair back eventually,at the moment i have a very fine covering of fluff on my head & was wandering whether to shave it off allowing for new growth to come through or just leave it as i know chemo has an effect on your hair folicles.
Any suggestions please.

Hi Tracey,

Well done for finishing chemo! Hope you are feeling O.K. Does take some time to recover but at least that part of treatment is over.

I finished my chemo. end November last year. I ditched the wig about
2 months ago. My hair is now reasonable but curly and a lot greyer than pre-chemo hair. I just let mine grow without shaving it as I was so relieved to have some hair back! I don’t know what others have done - sure you’ll get some more answers.

I finished my chemo in November 2011 and decided to shave my head for the last time on the 1st of January 2012. I still wear my wig for work but getting close to ditching it for good. There is a good covering of hair but it is still very short - a bit too short to be seen as a style of choice (in my opinion) And on a plus side, there is hardly any grey and so far doesn’t seem too curly.

Many thanx for your quick replys ladies, going to wait a bit longer before i decide what to do yet.So pleased with the little bit i got seems a shame to part with it after losing it the 1st time.

Hi Tracey,
I just left the fluff - and a bit like baby hair, it was just gradually replaced by thicker, more ‘normal’ hair. In fact the hair itself got stronger and stronger, so that as it grew, it just looked like I had ‘frosted’ tips to my hair. Six months from my last chemo, it was fine,

Tracey, just done LAST ONE today… I have fluff too and ever so proud of it, wouldn’t shave it off for the world! No doubt it will fall out next week…

Hi

I am 7 months post chemo and have decided to ditch the wig now the weather is getting warmer (!) I have had my hair cut twice now to get rid of the chemo wispy hairs and also massaged almond oil into my scalp initially to get rid of the cradle cap and to keep it healthy, but I never shaved it. My new hair is now about 1.5 inches long and very, very soft and fine but in very good condition and you can feel the new hairs on my scalp growing through which will make it thicker as they grow. I don’t go a bundle on the amount of grey, but the rest is more like a very dark charcoal than the dark brown I was so it will be interesting to see what happens as time goes by. I have been told that 7 months post-chemo is not that long in the great scheme of things.

Although my hair is too short to style I just pop some L’Oreal Remix on it so that is stands up in a funky-style.
