I had a WLE and full node clearance back in oct and I have just finished chemo.I start radiotherapy next week.I am waiting for my appt to see genetics team.My mum and sister have had BC.My children ,27,20 and 24 all expect it to be BRCA.We have all had a lot of time to talk and think about options if that is the case. However,I cannot find out if myself and my sister would need preventative mastectomies ourselves?I understand depending on the results about ovary removal but cannot find info for those already having had treatment to one breast.Anyone else had experience of this?Thank you
Hi picklepants
Here’s the link to BCC’s publication for Breast Cancer in Families, which I hope you find helpful.

And the link to the area of this website where this is discussed further.

I hope this is helpful for you. Kind regards,

Hi Picklepants, this is a quiet part of the forum, but hopefully you will have other replies. If I understand, you are asking the implications of a brca mutation if you have breast cancer? I think this would need careful discussion with your team. I can share my experience - when I found out I had a brca1 mutation after my treatment for a first breast cancer, I was told I was at high risk of developing a further breast cancer and that having my ovaries removed would not reduce my risk of breast cancer, only ovarian cancer. I had mastectomies and then my ovaries removed. Does this help? Rattles x
