Happy and breast free

Hi ladies

I haven’t been on here for a while but saw this topic and wanted to give encouragement to anyone who is struggling with the decision of wearing prostheses or not.

I had a bilateral mx two years ago and I realise that in one way it makes the decision easy because you are not unbalanced as you would be if you had a single mx.

I rarely wear my prostheses in the house or out shopping and when I worked, I wore them if I wanted to. It is very liberating to have the choice and nobody has ever said to me that I must wear them or raised the matter in conversation.

I hope you are all doing ok and if this helps, I’m glad.

best wishes

Dawnflower

Thanks Dawnflower this is something i am batteling with at the moment and it does help knowing so many people feel good with their body image after a bilateral mx.

Thanks for posting.

Hi - I just wanted to add that I had my second mastectomy early last week and I haven’t worn my mastectomy bra or any softies since - and it feels great. I am now seriously considering not wearing my prosthesises very often, although I will get some. Certainly I wouldn’t bother around the house, and I think it would depend what clothes I wanted to wear when I go out, as to whether I bothered or not. In this hot weather it is much better without them!
I was always pretty flat-chested so I don’t think anyone will really notice the difference. I suppose it is a big help that I have a partner who isn’t bothered, but in any case I don’t feel any less sexy or less of a woman, and I would still wear nice clothes and make-up!
I guess we will see whether I change my mind as time progresses but for now I am pretty happy without my boobs - they only caused me a lot of trouble after all!
