Has anybody else been told to stop Tamoxifen during Rads?

Apparently my consultant wishes everyone to stop taking tamoxifen during rads. I went on line researching this as my sis who is a therapy radiographer and also the radiographers I told at my hospital hadnt heard of it! Apparently there was some inconclusive research done showing that using Tamoxifen and rads increased the chance of lung scarring. There were 2 studies done,I think on mice, one was positive and one negative. Has anyone else come across this?
It doesnt bother me either way- 3 weeks of not taking Tamoxifen isnt going to do any harm, infact it may help my nausea!!

Hi Knitnut,

I started my Tamoxifen End of March 09 and Rads half way through April at the Christie hospital in Manchester. I too was asked to stop taking the Tamoxifen during Rads because my ONC did not think it wise. I Can’t actually remember the reason I was given for this but think it’s like any of the treatment plans. All depends what hospital, area you live, Doc you have.

Re the nausea, have you tried taking your Tamox at bed time? That way you sleep through it. I did have nausea for about the 1st month but by changing to bed time with a milky drink, made all the differance.

Hope this helps

Hi knitnut. I was not told to stop Tamoxifen while getting rads. Probably depends on your hospital and doc.As Jane suggested take it at night as that helped me with nausea. Joyce xx
