Has anyone else lost weight waiting?

Hi guys

Have any of you guys lost weight waiting for results or a biopsy? I am waiting to have my biopsy done in a week. It has been about three weeks since I first had my suspicious ultrasound. I think I lost like 15-20 pounds. I am stressed out about this. Does anyone know if it is possible to lose that much weight that fast from stress. I honestly felt fine until the ultrasound and then bam I felt sick and started to loose weight. Sleep less and eat less I am not even interested in sex.

Oh yeah Im a 25 year old male

Hi Jonnoj

I am sorry to read that you are so worried and would suggest that it may help if you talk to one of our specialist nurses on the helpline, it will help you to clarify your concerns and feelings which in turn may help you to cope with the next week or so. The number is 0808 800 6000 and it’s open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and Sat 9am-2pm.

Best wishes
Lucy

HI Jonno

Yeah I too have lost wait just through stress because before this I was always talking about loosing weight. It probably is the stress and the waiting is the hardest once you know and hopefully your result will be fine you will get your apetite back I am eating ok now and I am going into hospital for my op on friday. Try not to worry

dibs2030: Thanks it is crazy, because I have been trying to loose weight and it wasn’t going so well. Until I went to get my ultrasound and this all started. There was an opening and I am going to see a surgeon tomorrow. I also have an apointment to get a core biopsy next week. I have a feeling the surgeon is going to tell me it would be better to excise it and take it out completely. If he says that I will cancel my biopsy and hopefully he can do it as soon as possible. Im hoping the surgeon has some things to say, because the radiologist and my doctor didn’t have very much to say at all.

Hi jonnoj,

I’ve also been losing weight and I do think that it’s down to the worry. The only thing is that I really could do without losing it as I’m down to 8st 7lb and whenever I see a doctor or nurse I keep getting told not to lose any more weight, which is great but none of them can tell me how to put it on. Anyway thats enough about me, try not to worry yourself over the weight loss as you have so many other things to deal with. I really hope everything goes well for you and I’m thinking of you.

Hey Jonnoj,
If you want to loose it jsut look at it as one of the few benefits!! Not sure about going off sex tho’ — hasn’t happened to me and I’m a 44 year old straight girl!!

good luck with the planning - your surgeons will do what is best for you

Yes, it is indeed possible to lose lots of weight due to stress. I was ill with a bad virus earlier this year which really wiped me out. I then began to suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. I am okay now but I lost almost a stone in weight during this period. I have always been thin so losing weight was the last thing I wanted to do. Putting it back on again is really difficult too. I sympathise with you.

Good luck on your biopsy.

Sue

hi jonnoj,

yeah i also lost alot of weight, ( half a stone) but i wasn’t really eating.
i lost it very quickly and like you i was worried, but once my test results came back ok i felt hungry again and have now put on the weight i lost. please try not to worry i know it is stressful waiting for test results.
take care. : )

Hi Jonnoj

I also lost loads of weight which I didn’t need to lose and it came off really quickly. My clothes were hanging off me. I’ve put the weight back on now and am back to my pre-chemo weight. This whole thing is so stressful that it’s not surprising as you live off nervous energy.

Thinking of you for today

Best wishes

I got a second opinion. I saw one of the best surgeons who specializes in oncology in my area. He has alot of experience dealing with breast cancer. He looked at my ultrasound films and rescanned me. He said it is not cancer. He told me it is either an enlarged or inflamed breast bud or the beginning or gynecomastia. He told me the clinic I originally went to is known for doing things like scaring people into getting biopsies. He said it is how they make their money. I wasn’t the first person they saw with the similar situation. I understand that it is better to be safe than sorry, but the radiologist at the first clinic i went to was an cold ass. I trust this doctor more he treated me like a person and really made an effort to make me understand everything. He ordered a blood test to check my hormones and another appointment in a month to view the results and rescan me with an ultrasound. He told me that he could remove it if I wanted. He said there is no need to do that for any reason other than comfort and he said that it is almost guarnteed that the pathology report would show it as benign. I am going to do the blood work ( hopefully good ) and then have him remove it for piece of mind. As of now I feel alot better I would say about 80% still catch myself thinking “what if?”

I would appreciate any feedback you have.

Thank you for your support.

I won’t forget it.

Because of people like you I have decided to try and do something locally to help the cause.

Hopefully I can keep losing the weight though. My girlfriend is loving that side of all of this. I’m not fat or anything just a little chubby.
