Hi Ladies, I had an mx followed by recon 8 weeks ago and now have this pesky seroma under my arm which has become infected and proteinous so that it can’t be drained. The swelling, redness, pain etc is coming towards the reconstructed breast and I am so worried incase it spreads into the breast. Has anyone had a similar experience/and/or what happens if you get an infection in the breast and anti biotics don’t work? (I am allergic to penicillin and scared incase other antibiotics won’t be strong enough). Thanks!

I had an infection in my recon about 4 weeks after surgery. I battled with leakage and infection for about 2 weeks but eventually had to go back to surgery to have the implant removed. It cleared up really quickly after then and I had the implant but back in 2 months later. I know this probably isnt the news you wanted to hear but thought it best to be honest.

I had an LD flap recon some 8 yeara ago and had a very bad infection in the back wound. I had to be readmitted for it to be cleaned and drained and fortunately it didn’t spread to the implant.Its still looking good now! I did develop lymphodema after though
