Has anyone tried Mindfulness?

I’ve read that Mindfulness can be very effective for anyone suffering from a serious medical condition. Has any tried it? If you found it helpful  can you recommend a good book about it or an online training course. Best wishes x

Hi waffles…my psychologist recommended it along with other things…she told me to download the app (and also for relax and sleep) Didn’t really understand how to ‘work’ it so didn’t really use it bt I am a total technophobe so i’m sre its pretty easy. The relax and sleep one is ‘white noise’ eg vacuum, rain ,sea, pan pipes which I do sometimes use. Sorry cant ne mopre help.x

The mindfulness label makes me smile because it is something I’ve tried to perfect over the last 20 years without knowing its popularity or name!

I first had breast cancer 20 years ago at the age of 39 and have had many years of recurrences and extensive treatment. There have been many times when the fear is overwhelming so I really practised “living in the moment”, taken from my love of animals. That is…bringing your senses into the immediate instead of obsessing with past events ( not happy ones though!) and not worrying about anything in the future. So, anything that is positive, being with friends and family, a funny TV show, a sunset, whatever it is, focus and enjoy the moment. Any scary thoughts, put in mental drawers in a filing cabinet, try to keep those drawers SHUT firmly.

i probably sound mad as a box of frogs! It’s hard work mentally but it has results. I’m sure that there are mindfulness tapes etc  as its not a new idea now. I hope it works for you x

Thanks for your replies ladies,
Stresshead - I will have a look for an app. I never thought about trying that.
Stillhere- No you don’t sound mad. I think you’ve explained it very well. I’ve been trying my best to live in the moment and it is certainly much easier when my pain is well under control as it has been for the last couple of days. When I am a bit sorer or nearer appointments I do find it difficult. I’m going to persevere though as it certainly sounds like it has helped you a lot. x
