having a PICC line put in

Hi everyone, just joined here today and i must say i have spent the last hour reading all your lovely messages to each other. It is very reassuring to hear that others are thinking and feeling the same things as i am at the moment.

Let me give you my history, I have had a WLE and 6 weeks of radiotherapy. My HER2 test came back as positive so I’m now waiting to start chemo. I’m having Zoladex injections during chemo then the years worth of Herceptin. I’m having a PICC line put in next Wednesday. For some reason I’m more worried about the line than the chemo at the moment.

I was just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with PICC lines and could give me any advice.

Thanks guys x

I had a thread about the very same thing… have a scroll down and see other peoples view on them…take care xxx

Thanks BabyBoo,

That was very useful, although quite scary to read. Im a teacher and teach 5yr olds so im worried im gonna freak them out or they will accidentally pull it…yuck! I’ll just have to try and keep it covered up with some tubigrip or something similar!

thanks again
x

Hi Denise
I had a Picc line in for my Taxol Chemo and now having another for my Epirubicin Chemo tomorrow. My veins are hard to find.
It is a simple procedure and apart from the local anaesthetic you don’t feel anything. Makes things much easier all round. You can have a shower as long as you put cling film around it bit I got it wet a few times and it didnt seem to matter.
This is my 4th type of Chemo and getting fed up of their prodding trying to find a vein. I never used to mind but I think I am getting Needle Phobic
Good luck
Dot xx
